Make your mark while you grow your career! As a member of the Quality Assurance ABSA team, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in Pressure Equipment engineering, regulations, codes and standards while interfacing with a variety of teams company wide. Corporate QA supports North American Operations (Horizon, Albian, Thermal, and Conventional).

You will report to a Lead Engineer-QA ABSA and work on pressure equipment engineering alterations, and provide guidance, recommendations, and resolutions on the day-to-day challenges to company teams to ensure compliance with various pressure equipment regulatory requirements, particularly ABSA.

  • Job location:

     Calgary, Alberta

  • Shift schedule:

     Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts

Key Accountabilities:

  • Perform in-house engineering/calculation for pressure equipment alterations/re-rating.

  • P. Eng. authenticate 

    engineering/calculation documents.

  • Provide engineering and regulatory expertise including squad check review of engineering deliverables to ensure Code and ABSA compliance.

  • Perform “Audit Based Design Reviews” (ABDR) for registration of piping systems as part of Canadian Natural’s Owner User Manual and ABDR Program accredited by ABSA.

  • Review of alteration packages for pressure equipment.

  • Review of scope of work to issue “Decision Record”; documenting regulatory decisions/requirements.  

  • Participate and contribute to Oil Sands OPPSD/OMOPP projects.

  • Liaise between ABSA Design Survey and internal business units.

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering;

    Mechanical is preferred.

  • Registration with APEGA 

    as a P.Eng. is required.

  • 6-12 years of Oil & Gas/Oil Sands experience; 4+ years in the design of pressure equipment/piping.

  • Strong knowledge in ABSA, CSA B51, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel codes/ASME B31, and API (520, 530, 579).

  • The following would be considered an asset:

    • Working knowledge of “Codeware Compress” or “PV Elite”.

    • Previous experience in design of Heat Exchangers and fire pressure equipment.

    • Working knowledge of other provinces’ regulatory organizations (TSASK, TSBC, TSSA).
