Engineering Lead (Structural) - Qatar

Job Purpose

Responsible for leading all Structural Engineering deliverables and designs related to Conceptual Studies, Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI), and subsequent project phases through Approved for Design (AFD), Approved for Construction (AFC), and final As-Built dossier completion.

This includes oversight of structural analysis, design basis development, specifications, drawings, and engineering assurance for offshore jackets, sensor tower platforms, and other offshore structural facilities.

Key Job Accountabilities

1. Structural Engineering Assurance

Ensure all project requirements for structural facilities are met through the review and verification of structural engineering deliverables, including:

  • Structural Design Basis documents
  • Structural specifications
  • In-service analyses:
    • In-place
    • Fatigue
    • Pushover
    • Boat impact
    • Seismic
  • Pre-service analyses:
    • Lift
    • Loadout
    • Transportation
    • On-bottom stability
  • Geophysical and geotechnical data
  • Metocean data
  • Probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA)
  • Wave scatter diagram data
  • Structural loading data

2. Technical Leadership

Provide structural engineering leadership, technical guidance, and subject matter expertise. Supervise contractor structural engineering teams and maintain Subject Matter Expert (SME) level competency in Structural Engineering.

3. Design Review and Verification

Review design work performed by contractors, consultants, and third parties. Recommend corrections and improvements while ensuring compliance with operational philosophies and project objectives.

4. Engineering Standards Compliance

Review project specifications developed by contractors and ensure alignment with company engineering standards, design practices, and applicable industry requirements.

5. Contractor and Vendor Management

Manage contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and sub-vendors, resolving structural engineering concerns and supporting effective project execution.

6. Deliverable Approval

Review and approve structural engineering deliverables, material requisitions, and purchase orders to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, standards, and approved design practices.

7. Project Lifecycle Support

Lead and coordinate structural engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, including:

  • Planning
  • Scheduling
  • Interface management
  • Risk management
  • Commissioning
  • Handover activities

8. Continuous Improvement and Engineering Interfaces

Drive continuous improvement initiatives, support offshore installation activities, and provide engineering interface coordination with drilling, completion, and other technical disciplines as required.

9. Offshore Support

Participate in offshore installation activities and handover inspections as required.

Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel offshore for short durations.
  • Possession of required offshore safety certifications, including:
    • T-BOSIET
    • H?S Certification

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years of engineering experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Minimum 1 year in a supervisory, acting leadership, or contractor oversight role.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Structural Lead on major offshore capital projects.
  • Experience working with:
    • Operating companies
    • EPC contractors
    • Engineering consultants
    • Subcontractors and vendors
  • Strong knowledge of international engineering standards, specifications, and design practices.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Project planning
    • Scheduling
    • Cost control
    • Stage-gate project systems
    • Project execution planning
    • Risk management
    • Change management
    • Interface management
    • Commissioning and handover processes
  • Experience managing contractors and third-party vendors across multiple project phases, preferably from FEED through start-up.
  • Experience with:
    • Sour gas and LNG facilities (onshore environments); and/or
    • Large offshore platforms and pipelines (offshore environments)
