Entry-level Lease Operator
Duration: 1 year initially with possibility of extension / go direct
Location: Midland, Texas
Rotation: Monday to Friday, 6:30am to 5pm
Position Overview
This Lease Operator I opportunity is with a company operating within the oil and gas sector and focused on safe, efficient field operations. Lease Operator I is a hands-on position supporting the operation, monitoring, and maintenance preparation of wells, processing units, and related facilities. This Lease Operator I role is particularly suited to candidates who can work effectively in an operational site environment, maintain strong safety standards, and contribute to reliable production performance. Lease Operator I offers the chance to work across core production activities with a strong emphasis on process awareness, equipment monitoring, and operational discipline.
Role Context
This position is based at a field location in Midland, Texas, supporting oil, gas, and water separation facilities and associated surface equipment. The role forms part of a large project that includes facility start-up and operations activities in an on-site production environment. This position also involves coordination with a Production Foreman and participation in day-to-day field operations, safety processes, and environmental performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and support maintenance preparation for wells, processing units, and related production facilities.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety by following site rules, supporting safe working practices, and identifying operational risks.
- Inspect and monitor equipment and work areas to confirm correct operation and detect issues such as leaks, freezing, overheating, or abnormal conditions.
- Read gauges and meters, record operating data accurately, take product samples, and monitor chemical injection rates and differential pressure.
- Adjust local process parameters such as temperature and pressure to help maintain operations within the defined operating range.
- Check valve positions and carry out basic equipment maintenance including adding lube oil, tightening valve packing, changing filters, and clearing equipment.
- Issue safe work permits and perform gas testing where required to support maintenance activities.
- Communicate with the Production Foreman regarding operating conditions, production changes, and required adjustments.
- Inspect safety equipment including safety valves, fire extinguishers, fire hoses, and breathing apparatus.
- Support environmental compliance by carrying out work in a way that minimises emissions, spills, and other operational impacts.
Qualifications & Experience
- Essential: High School diploma.
- Essential: Entry-level position - some experience with oil and gas is required but no more than 3 years of experience in lease operations.
- Essential: Ability to work on a rotating shift.
- Essential: Availability for call out as operational situations require.
- Essential: Ability to maintain, operate, and repair surface equipment associated with oil and gas production.
- Essential: Computer proficiency with good written and oral communication skills.
- Essential: Ability to lift more than 50 lbs. and climb ladders and stairways.
- Essential: Ability to use a self-contained breathing apparatus and other safety detection equipment.
- Desirable: Experience in new facilities start-up and operations.
- Desirable: Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
