About the role

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Lead to join a major mining project based in Perth. This pivotal leadership position will be responsible for managing environmental, heritage and water approval requirements, ensuring compliance obligations are effectively integrated into project planning, engineering design and delivery schedules. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will oversee approval pathways, heritage survey programs, environmental risk management and stakeholder engagement activities to support successful project execution. The role will be Perth-based for approximately 12 months before transitioning to a FIFO roster during the construction and execution phase.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead environmental, heritage and regulatory approvals activities across the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate environmental consultants and technical specialists to achieve approval and compliance milestones.
  • Manage heritage survey programs, access requirements and clearance processes to support project schedules.
  • Oversee environmental inputs for water approvals, licensing applications and hydrogeological investigations.
  • Ensure environmental and heritage obligations are incorporated into engineering design and review processes.
  • Monitor approvals and compliance schedules, identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Provide leadership to environmental and GIS personnel while fostering strong relationships with clients, regulators and project stakeholders.
  • Support project teams in delivering environmental outcomes that align with business and regulatory requirements.

About you

  • Demonstrated experience leading environmental, heritage and approvals activities within the mining, resources or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong understanding of environmental approvals, permitting processes and regulatory compliance requirements in Western Australia.
  • Proven ability to manage consultants, multidisciplinary teams and complex stakeholder interfaces.
  • Experience coordinating heritage surveys, land access requirements and environmental risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of water approvals, licensing frameworks and hydrogeological considerations.
  • Strong project management, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced project environment and manage competing priorities.
  • Current Australian working rights are required to be considered for this position.
