Job Title:
Experienced Safety Engineer
Duration: 6 months
Schedule: Full-time (Monday-Friday)
Location: Nanterre, Paris
This opportunity sits within a major FEED competition project for a new LNG facility and focuses on delivering high-quality Safety Engineering work within a multidisciplinary HSED team. The role offers involvement across key safety studies and design activities including HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, hazardous area classification, fire protection, gas detection, and escape, evacuation and rescue. This position will contribute to safe design development that protects personnel, the environment, and assets while working closely with process, piping, civil, and instrumentation disciplines.
Required Education:
Master of Science degree in Engineering, preferably in Safety or Process
Required Experience:
Significant experience in Safety Engineering within oil and gas, petrochemicals, and/or energy transition projects
Experience delivering safety studies and associated engineering deliverables in a complex project environment
Experience working across multidisciplinary engineering teams and interfacing with multiple technical disciplines and operating centres
Required Skills:
Strong knowledge of Safety Engineering activities including preliminary risk analysis, hazardous area classification, active and passive fire protection, cold spill protection, personnel protection, and escape, evacuation and rescue
Experience participating in safety reviews such as HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, and LOPA
Ability to identify and qualify major accident events and develop prevention, control, mitigation, and protection measures
Knowledge of Safety Critical Elements and associated criticality rating
Experience with firewater pump station design, firefighting networks, deluge systems studies, and hydraulic balance calculations
Knowledge of flammable gas, toxic gas, and fire detection systems
Strong understanding of international safety codes and standards including NFPA standards, API practices, and IP codes
Ability to prepare engineering queries, respond to technical comments, and identify inconsistencies in basis of design documentation
Sound technical judgement with the ability to justify design choices and propose technical and capital cost optimisations
English language proficiency in a professional engineering environment
Proficiency with common computer tools including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat
Strong teamwork, communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills in a multicultural environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Canadian and Quebec regulations
Experience supporting review of deliverables produced by others and supervising engineers
