Job Title: Field Operator III - Automation Technician

Duration: 12 months
Schedule: 5/40
Location: Carlsbad, New Mexico

This opportunity supports oil and gas operations in South East New Mexico, with a focus on automation, instrumentation, SCADA monitoring, and field-based maintenance activities. The role offers hands-on involvement with PLC components, communication systems, wired and wireless transmitters, and operational troubleshooting in a technically demanding environment. This position will suit candidates who are confident working outdoors, committed to safety, and motivated to contribute to reliable field operations.

Required Experience:

  • Experience supporting oil and gas production equipment and operations.
  • Experience installing, troubleshooting, and repairing PLCs, ABB TotalFlow systems, Fisher ROCs, transmitters, and related automation and I&E equipment.
  • Experience monitoring operations through SCADA systems in a field environment.
  • Experience working with minimal supervision while contributing effectively within a team-based operational setting.
  • Experience supporting call-out or operational response activities, including nights, weekends, holidays, and late working when required.

Required Skills:

  • Strong ability to install, maintain, and troubleshoot automation and I&E equipment, including PLC components, HMI units, wired and wireless transmitters, and communications equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical circuits and associated components safely and effectively.
  • Knowledge of communication equipment including Freewave, XetaWave, RedLion, ABB, Cambium, and fibre optic systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, and general computer-based work activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures on required equipment.
  • Ability to work safely in extreme outdoor temperatures and in a safety-conscious operational environment.
  • Self-motivated approach, willingness to learn, and ability to take direction from experienced operational and automation personnel.

Required Certifications:

  • Certification to work at heights using appropriate fall protection (Required).
