Position Overview

This Field Telecoms Engineer opportunity is suited to a technically strong professional with experience in IT operations, telecoms engineering, and network support within complex industrial environments. The role offers the chance to support critical telecoms operations across onshore energy facilities, helping to maintain reliable and secure communications infrastructure. This Field Telecoms Engineer position will suit someone who is confident working across operational support, maintenance planning, and technical problem-solving. The Field Telecoms Engineer will play an important part in supporting business continuity, operational performance, and secure telecoms service delivery.

Role Context

This position sits within the energy sector and supports telecoms operations across onshore facilities in Scotland, including a gas terminal, an NGL production plant, and a marine terminal. The role is focused on operational telecoms infrastructure and support for critical facility environments. This opportunity is offered within a team supporting digital and operational services in a production-focused setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support for the operation, maintenance, and continuous performance of telecoms infrastructure across managed facilities.
  • Support the design, configuration, and maintenance of critical and operationally essential telecoms systems at onshore sites.
  • Deliver run and maintain support for telecoms assets, including corrective and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Support telecoms and network operations through server administration, workstation support, and network support.
  • Monitor communication equipment, servers, and networks using relevant monitoring tools and applications.
  • Maintain secure configuration backups for servers and network equipment.
  • Manage telecom asset inventories and maintain accurate logical network documentation.
  • Support compliance activities and ensure timely close-out of actions relating to telecom operations.
  • Contribute to local and wider technical projects as a telecoms engineering resource.
  • Recommend practical solutions to technical issues and support timely resolution of identified problems.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Demonstrable relevant experience in IT operations and telecoms or network engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent certification in IT and/or communications and electronics systems.
  • Strong experience with telecoms systems such as Avaya PBX, Cisco Call Manager, UHF/VHF systems, DC power systems, crude loading or ESD systems, aviation communications systems, aviation lighting systems, CATV or entertainment systems, microwave, and LTE.
  • Experience supporting fibre-based telecom infrastructure and implementing and managing IT security.
  • Strong technical capability in network device configuration including switches, routers, and firewalls, as well as systems administration across Wintel and Linux environments.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, security, and environmental processes, plus business continuity and disaster recovery planning and operations.
  • Ability to evaluate technical business problems independently and carry solutions through to completion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across teams and stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Networking certification, preferably CCNA.
  • Experience with production and operations environments.
  • Experience with SolarWinds network monitoring systems or similar platforms.
  • Offshore certifications such as BOSIET, MIST, and COMPEX.
