The Opportunity
We're supporting a leading LNG operating company in Angola in the search for an experienced Functional Advisor - Mechanical to join their Operations & Maintenance team.
This is a senior technical advisory position focused on developing national workforce capability while providing subject matter expertise across LNG mechanical systems, rotating equipment, and cryogenic marine loading facilities.
The successful candidate will act as the mechanical authority within the facility, supporting operational excellence, equipment reliability, maintenance best practices, and technical coaching.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and coaching to the mechanical maintenance team.
- Develop workforce capability through mentoring, knowledge transfer, and competency development.
- Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for mechanical systems across the LNG facility.
- Support reliability improvement initiatives and equipment performance optimization.
- Investigate equipment failures and provide root cause analysis recommendations.
- Review maintenance strategies, procedures, and critical equipment plans.
- Support shutdown planning and major maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with HSE, integrity, and operational standards.
Key Technical Areas
Marine Loading Arms (Essential)
Applicants must possess practical experience supporting:
- LNG Marine Loading Arms (MLA)
- Cryogenic swivels and sealing systems
- Hydraulic and control systems
- Nitrogen purge systems
- Joint refurbishment and maintenance
- LNG loading/export operations
Rotating Equipment
Strong experience across some or all of the following:
- Gas compressors
- Gas turbines
- Turbo-expanders
- Generators
- Pumps
- Diesel generator systems
- Condition monitoring and vibration analysis
- Reliability-centred maintenance
Essential Requirements
? Minimum 10 years' experience in LNG, gas processing, or major oil & gas operating facilities.
? Proven hands-on mechanical maintenance background within live operating facilities.
? Demonstrable experience with LNG export terminal or marine loading facilities.
? Strong knowledge of rotating equipment and reliability engineering principles.
? Previous experience in a senior technical, advisory, leadership, mentoring, or supervisory capacity.
? Excellent communication and coaching skills with the ability to develop local workforce capability.
? Experience working in multinational operational environments.
Highly Desirable
- LNG export terminal experience.
- Previous expatriate rotational assignments.
- Experience with GE gas turbines.
- Experience with Siemens power generation equipment.
- Reliability engineering qualifications.
- Vibration analysis certification.
- LNG loading jetty or marine terminal experience.
