Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Geomechanics Numerical Modeler / Geomechanics Specialist to support subsurface projects across conventional oil & gas and emerging carbon storage applications. This is a highly specialized technical role focused on solving complex geomechanical challenges through advanced numerical modeling and rock mechanics analysis.

This position is ideal for candidates with a strong background in geomechanics, rock mechanics, computational modeling, and finite element analysis who are passionate about applying numerical techniques to real-world subsurface challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply advanced geomechanical numerical models to evaluate subsurface stress, pore pressure, deformation, and rock behavior.
  • Analyze and predict geomechanical responses related to:
  • Well planning and drilling operations
  • Reservoir compaction and subsidence
  • Fault reactivation
  • Casing and completion deformation
  • Hydraulic fracturing
  • Carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects
  • Utilize finite element and multi-physics modeling approaches to solve complex solid mechanics and poro-mechanics problems.
  • Integrate modeling results with laboratory data, field observations, and operational information to improve predictions and decision-making.
  • Develop innovative workflows, methodologies, and modeling solutions with a high degree of technical independence.
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports, presentations, and recommendations to multidisciplinary stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, geoscientists, and project teams across global operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in:
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Petroleum Engineering
  • Geophysics
  • Geology
  • Or a related technical discipline
  • Master's degree or PhD strongly preferred.
  • 5–15 years of experience applying geomechanical modeling to subsurface oil & gas or energy-related projects.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Geomechanics
  • Rock mechanics
  • Stress analysis
  • Numerical modeling
  • Finite element methods
  • Experience modeling rock deformation, stress behavior, pore pressure interactions, and coupled mechanical systems.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple technical projects.

Preferred Technical Experience

Experience with one or more of the following software packages:

  • ABAQUS
  • VISAGE
  • ANSYS
  • Reveal
  • Elfen
  • Petrel

Additional experience in any of the following areas is considered a plus:

  • High-performance computing environments
  • MATLAB
  • Python
