We are working with a Major Oil & Gas operator to source for Head of Commissioning (Rotating Equipment - Mechanical) specialising in Onshore LNG Projects. This is a long-term contract role working on a residential basis 6-days per week / 10 hours per day. Please see details below:
Title: Head of Commissioning (Rotating Equipment - Mechanical) – LNG Project
Start Date: Negotiable (typically within 1 month notice)
Duration: 36 months (potential for extension)
Location: Onshore (site based), Qatar
Working Schedule: 6-days per week / 10 hours per day
Job Purpose:
Commissioning and start-up of machinery equipment to ensure timely project delivery and compliance with technical specifications. Provide technical direction and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and EPC contractors to meet project objectives, ensuring safety and quality standards. Oversee and support the installation, pre-commissioning, and start-up of machinery packages, transitioning to the project commissioning organization as needed.
Key Accountabilities:
- Reports to Commissioning Division Manager – (onshore project)
- Facilitate detailed design, commissioning and start-up of heavy duty industrial gas turbines in both mechanical drive and power generation service., large (>20MW) industrial centrifugal compressors, turbo-expanders, hydraulic turbines, LNG submersible pumps, large API (>2MW) vertical pumps, API centrifugal pumps, rotary screw pumps and compressors, magnetic bearings, dry gas seals, etc.
- Head machinery design and coordination to ensure engineering deliverables meet project requirements ensuring alignment with safety standards and quality objectives.
- Coordinate machinery design across disciplines, reviewing and prioritizing work activities in conjunction with Engineering Manager and Heads of Process, Electrical, Mechanical, disciplines as well as Operations and Engineering Advisors to ensure that project deliverables are met.
- Provide technical guidance to EPC contractor for timely completion of machinery design and execution plans, per project specifications, offering clear direction when project instructions or specifications are ambiguous.
- Support interfacing and work coordination between key vendors (Baker Hughes, Flowserve, Elliott-Ebara, Mitsubishi, etc) and EPC contractor to ensure quality and execution objectives are met.
- Ensure field execution at site meets project plans. Develop, review, and execute commissioning check sheets, checklists for systems completion. Manage punch lists and closeouts and conduct. pre-start-up checks for machinery.
- Facilitate dry gas seal system commissioning, machinery piping alignment, machinery shaft alignment, solo runs, lube oil flushing, soft-foot check, coupling installation check.
- Identify deficiencies in performance of machinery against contractual requirements and initiate and fully define warranty claims.
- Develop plans and procedures, incorporating design safety aspects to mitigate any safety risks associated with machinery execution activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Sciences or Mechanical Engineering
Knowledge and/or Experience
- 15 years’ experience in various project phases such as engineering, procurement, and construction, within large-scale commissioning projects in the oil and gas industry, including 2 years of experience in a supervisory role, including acting roles, or oversight of service/vendor personnel.
- Expertise with large (>20MW) industrial centrifugal compressors, turbo-expanders, hydraulic turbines, LNG submersible pumps, large API (>2MW) vertical pumps, API centrifugal pumps, rotary screw pumps and compressors, magnetic bearings, dry gas seals, etc.
Technical and Business Skills
- Excellent written and oral English skills.
- Strong technical, prioritisation and management skills.
- Good influencing and interface skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs, etc.
