Head of Marine

Overview

The Head of Marine is responsible for leading marine safety, assurance, quality, and compliance activities across offshore projects. The role acts as the marine subject matter expert, ensuring all marine operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures, international regulations, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead marine assurance, safety, quality, and compliance activities across multiple offshore marine spreads.
  • Manage vessel suitability assessments, OVID inspections, DP assurance activities, marine audits, and Marine Warranty Survey (MWS) interfaces.
  • Support offshore construction, installation, transportation & installation (T&I), heavy lift, pipelay, cable lay, diving, and marine vessel operations.
  • Coordinate with project teams, EPC contractors, vessel owners, classification societies, regulators, and marine contractors to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
  • Lead marine incident investigations, root cause analysis, lessons learned initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Review and validate marine procedures, risk assessments, and technical deliverables related to offshore marine operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Marine Studies, Science, or Master Mariner/Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency.
  • Minimum 10 years' seagoing experience, including at least 2 years as Master Mariner or Chief Engineer.
  • Proven experience managing offshore marine units supporting offshore construction and installation activities.
  • Strong background in marine assurance, compliance, OVID inspections, vessel suitability assessments, DP assurance, and marine safety governance.
  • Thorough knowledge of DP Operations, FMEA reviews, annual DP trials, ASOG, CAMO, and offshore marine risk management.
  • Strong understanding of IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, flag state, and classification society requirements.

Preferred Experience

  • Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS) experience.
  • Marine Consultancy experience.
  • Middle East offshore project experience.
  • IMCA accreditation or certification.
  • Experience working with major operators, EPC contractors, and offshore construction projects.
