This opportunity supports laboratory facilities within the energy and chemical operations space, providing critical Health, Safety and Environmental leadership across operational safety, environmental stewardship and workforce safety and health. The role offers strong field engagement and the chance to influence operational excellence, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement through incident investigation, safeguard verification and Management of Change. This position is focused on supporting one Richmond site with no travel required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Health, Safety and Environmental guidance and support to operations, maintenance, project and contractor teams to promote safe, compliant and reliable operations.
- Identify critical risks, verify safeguards and reinforce safe work practices to support Serious Injuries and Fatalities prevention.
- Conduct field engagements, observations and coaching with personnel and contractors, with a focus on high-risk work activities and permit-to-work requirements.
- Support Job Safety Analysis development, toolbox talks, pre-job planning and Start Work Checks.
- Develop, implement, monitor and verify the effectiveness of Health, Safety and Environmental programs, deliverables and performance expectations.
- Support assurance activities including safeguard assurance, critical safeguard verification, Management of Change, workplace safety and health verifications and regulatory compliance reviews.
- Track, address and close Health, Safety and Environmental and operational excellence findings and corrective actions.
- Participate in audits, assessments and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead and facilitate incident investigations using structured root cause analysis methodologies.
- Support incident response, classification, reporting and data quality management within enterprise reporting systems.
- Identify trends and help develop effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Promote Human and Organizational Performance concepts to strengthen organisational learning.
- Support environmental permitting activities, regulatory inspections and compliance obligations.
- Assist with environmental risk assessments and implementation of environmental controls.
- Support Management of Change processes to ensure risks associated with organisational, operational, equipment and procedural changes are appropriately evaluated and managed.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
Required Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of progressive Health, Safety and Environmental experience supporting laboratory, industrial, manufacturing, chemical, energy or oil and gas operations.
- Proven ability to influence operational performance and drive sustainable Health, Safety and Environmental improvements across multiple sites and stakeholders.
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Experience with safe work practices and permit-to-work systems.
- Experience in contractor Health, Safety and Environmental management.
- Experience in incident investigation and reporting.
- Experience using root cause analysis methodologies.
- Experience supporting Management of Change processes.
- Experience with high-risk work and safeguard verification.
- Experience with environmental permitting and regulatory compliance.
- Knowledge of Human and Organizational Performance principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
Preferred Education & Certifications:
- Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHMM, CIH or equivalent.
