Instrument Technician

This position is dedicated to supporting the operation and maintenance of instrumentation, control equipment, and safety systems onboard. The successful candidate will ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with the required maintenance program, with a focus on delivering safe and efficient functioning of all related systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain instrumentation, control, and safety systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with established maintenance programs.
  • Carry out first line maintenance tasks, report faults, and perform system isolations in accordance with the level of authorisation held.
  • Calibrate fire and gas detection systems, perform routine equipment checks, and monitor machinery parameters and alarms.
  • Accurately record maintenance activities and findings within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Promote efficient use of spare parts and timely reporting of deficiencies.
  • Uphold high standards of housekeeping and safe work practices at all times and ensure environmental protection protocols are considered during all activities.
  • Administer allocated instrument equipment rooms and complete required reporting forms.
  • Ensure effective shift handovers, including written and verbal briefings prior to crew changes.
  • Immediately halt any operation if unsafe conditions or changes in maintenance activities are detected.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Engineering degree in electrical & electronic discipline or equivalent.
  • Recognised certificate in Instrumentation & Control or equivalent.
  • Certificate/proof of personnel competence for work on EX certified systems.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in control and instrumentation maintenance and operation for process or utility systems in a petrochemical or LNG carrier environment.
  • Previous experience on fixed installations, FPSOs, FSRUs, or LNG carriers is desirable.
  • Relevant safety training courses and valid Medical Certificate as required for the operating region.

  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary maintenance team and communicate clearly during shift handovers.
  • Proficiency in using computerised maintenance management systems for accurate record keeping.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and adherence to procedural standards.
