Job Title: Instrumentation & Control Advisor
Duration: 12 month initial contract
Rotation: 28/28 rotation
Location: Luanda, Angola (onshore with occasional offshore trips)

This opportunity offers the chance to provide high-level technical expertise across brownfield projects and operating assets within the petrochemical, refining, oil and gas, or chemical manufacturing environment. The role focuses on instrumentation, process controls, reliability improvement, and engineering compliance, while supporting safe and efficient plant operations. This position also offers meaningful scope to influence technical decisions, support complex engineering challenges, and mentor developing engineering talent.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical expertise and guidance on instrumentation and control equipment across operating sites, projects, contractors, and vendors.
- Support instrumentation design, specification, configuration, programming, testing, commissioning, start-up, operation, and maintenance activities.
- Lead or advise on troubleshooting, failure analysis, root cause investigations, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Review engineering deliverables, technical standards, procedures, and equipment requirements to support compliance with relevant codes, standards, and company standards.
- Lead reliability programmes and support risk assessments, incident investigations, bad actor elimination, and risk-based maintenance practices.
- Monitor equipment performance and implement improvements to reliability, availability, maintainability, and efficiency.
- Support Management of Change activities, equipment modifications, upgrades, and new installations.
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, project teams, contractors, vendors, and technical networks.
- Mentor less experienced engineers and share best practices across the organisation.
- Support SSHE expectations and contribute to safe, reliable plant operations.
Essential kills:
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Control & Automation Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Systems, or equivalent.
- Solid experience in instrumentation and process controls within the petrochemical industry, refining, oil and gas, or chemical manufacturing.
- Advanced expertise in process instrumentation including pressure, flow, level, temperature, control valves, actuators, and related field devices.
- Strong knowledge of DCS, PLC, and SIS.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting capability, with experience in maintenance and reliability improvement.
- Strong understanding of engineering design for brownfield projects and discipline compliance with relevant codes, standards, and company standards.
- Experience supporting reliability programmes, risk assessments, incident investigations, and risk-based maintenance practices.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across functions and influence stakeholders in operations and maintenance environments.
- Effective leadership capability, including the ability to establish and articulate strategic objectives.
- Well-spoken and written English for technical communication and documentation.
- Strong safety and risk management mindset.
Desirable:
- Experience in maintenance, troubleshooting, reliability improvement, or project execution for late life assets.
- Knowledge of engineering specifications and industry standards.
- Ability to adapt, identify workplace hazards, and apply sound analytical judgement.
- Ability to influence without direct authority and interact effectively with operations and maintenance organisations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse groups and build effective internal networks.
- Knowledge of Industrial Control Systems Environment security design, implementation, and ongoing management.
