Location: Luanda, Angola onshore with offshore trips

This opportunity sits within a technical and engineering environment supporting brownfield projects and operating assets in Angola. The role focuses on instrumentation, process controls, DCS, PLC and SIS, with responsibility for improving equipment reliability, supporting engineering compliance, and contributing to safe and efficient plant operations. This position offers exposure to troubleshooting, commissioning, maintenance support, and cross-functional collaboration across operations, maintenance, projects, contractors, and vendors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical troubleshooting, failure analysis, root cause investigations, and performance improvement activities across operating assets.
  • Provide technical support for instrumentation design, specification, configuration, programming, testing, commissioning, start-up, operation, and maintenance.
  • Review engineering deliverables, technical standards, procedures, and equipment requirements.
  • Support reliability programmes, risk assessments, incident investigations, bad actor elimination, and risk-based maintenance practices.
  • Monitor equipment performance and implement improvements to reliability, availability, maintainability, and efficiency.
  • Support Management of Change, equipment modifications, upgrades, and new installations.
  • Work closely with operations, maintenance, project teams, contractors, vendors, and technical networks to deliver practical engineering solutions.
  • Provide guidance and share best practice with less experienced engineers.
  • Support SSHE expectations and contribute to safe, reliable plant operations.

Essential Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Control & Automation Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Systems, or equivalent.
  • Relevant experience in instrumentation and process controls within petrochemical, refining, oil and gas, chemical manufacturing, or design institute environments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of process instrumentation including pressure, flow, level, temperature, control valves, actuators, and related field devices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DCS, PLC, and SIS.
  • Experience supporting engineering design and brownfield project activity.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and critical thinking capability.
  • Ability to use CMMS tools such as SAP.
  • Effective teamworking skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across functions.
  • Good spoken and written English for technical communication and documentation.
  • Ability to work offshore as required and travel by helicopter or boat.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of engineering specifications, industry standards, country-specific regulations, and local codes.
  • Experience in maintenance, troubleshooting, reliability improvement, or project execution for late-life assets.
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems environment security design, implementation, and ongoing management.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify abnormalities in equipment performance and determine appropriate next steps.
  • Ability to maintain accurate maintenance logs and reports and identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Adaptability, creativity, innovation, and strong interpersonal communication skills for working with diverse teams.
