Instrumentation Valve Engineer
Location: Rotterdam, Netherlands
Contract: 12 months' renewable contract

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design of cutting-edge Process Control and Instrumentation Systems within the upstream Oil & Gas industry. Your expertise will play a crucial role in ensuring safety and efficiency in our projects, while working alongside a talented group of professionals dedicated to excellence.
Role Overview
- Continuously consider cost, constructability, operability, and maintainability.
- Prepare specifications for various valve packages based on SBM Group Technical Standards (GTS) and specific client requirements.
- Act as Package Engineer for instrument valve packages and collaborate closely with the Package Manager and Buyer of the Supply Chain Group for technical bid evaluations.
- Guide and coach junior valve engineers in the Rotterdam office and other SBM locations worldwide.
- Review vendor documents and support inspectors during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
- Advise material/corrosion engineers on cost-effective valve body and trim materials available in the market.
- Challenge vendor proposed control valve solutions regarding sizes, materials, and valve types.
- Specify appropriate actuator types and control schemes, including partial valve stroke test functionality.
- Translate Functional Safety requirements into actuated On/Off valve datasheets.
- Review valve specifications prepared by Engineering sub-contractors to ensure quality and consistency with SBM standards.
- Ensure selected valves comply with regulatory regimes, international guidelines, classification requirements, and client specifications.
- Assist Supply Chain Category Manager in qualifying new valve vendors.
- Provide input to SBM Group engineering- and technical standards for valve packages.
- Support Operations in troubleshooting and provide advice on resolving operational valve problems.
- Provide technical support to Brownfield projects.
- Prepare project performance standards for valves based on GTS and client requirements.
Skills & Qualifications
- Valves expertise: In-depth knowledge of Control Valves, On-Off Valves, Safety Valves, and Pressure Relief Valves.
- Standards Knowledge: Thorough understanding of international standards API 6A, 6D, ISO actuator requirements, API, and ASME BPVC requirements for pressure relief devices.
- Control Valve Calculations: Experience with control valve calculations, preferably using CONVAL.
- Software Proficiency: Fully competent in SmartPlant Instrumentation; experience with Aveva Engineering is advantageous.
- Safety Standards: Good understanding of IEC61508 & 61511 requirements.
- Communication Skills: Professional communication in English (verbal and written).
- Problem Solving: Pro-active approach with strong initiative and creative thinking.
Education & Experience
- Education: University or Technical College (BSc degree) in a relevant field.
- Experience: At least 8 years’ experience in Instrumentation Valve Engineering in the upstream Oil & Gas industry.
