Japan/ Renewable energy developer/ EPC Commercial Manager
About the Company
Our client is a leading renewable energy developer and operator focused on advancing the energy transition through the development, investment, and operation of utility-scale renewable energy projects.
Position Overview
This role will lead the end-to-end EPC commercial and contracting process for renewable energy development projects, including EPC strategy development, tender process design, contract negotiations, and contract execution.
Focusing on some of Japan’s largest onshore wind power projects, you will work directly with domestic and international EPC contractors to optimize project economics, enhance profitability, and minimize contractual and commercial risks.
Rather than operating from the contractor side, this position offers the opportunity to act on behalf of the project owner, driving EPC partner selection and developing optimal contracting structures that maximize project value.
Key Responsibilities

- Prepare ITB (Invitation to Bid) documents and design competitive tender processes.
- Lead commercial and contractual negotiations with EPC bidders and contractors.
- Drive EPC cost optimization and contractual risk mitigation initiatives.
- Negotiate key contractual provisions, including liquidated damages (LDs), performance guarantees, warranty obligations, limitation of liability, and payment terms.
- Coordinate closely with internal stakeholders across Engineering, Legal, Finance, and Development teams.
- Lead EPC contract execution and support contract administration throughout project implementation.
Why Join This Role?
- Take ownership of the entire EPC contracting process from strategy development through contract award from the project owner’s perspective.
- Directly influence investment decisions, project economics, and overall business value through successful negotiations.
- Contribute to some of the largest renewable energy projects in Japan.
- Gain exposure to high-level commercial negotiations with leading EPC contractors from Japan and around the world.
- Build a long-term career path toward procurement leadership, commercial management, and broader project development or business leadership roles.
Required Qualifications
- Experience negotiating contracts for large-scale construction, industrial plant, or power generation projects, either from the project owner’s side or the contractor’s side.
- Hands-on experience with EPC contracts and construction contracts.
- Proven experience coordinating with and driving alignment among both internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working for an EPC contractor, heavy industry manufacturer, utility company, independent power producer, or renewable energy developer.
- Experience reviewing and negotiating English-language contracts and supporting international projects.
- Experience in roles such as Contract Engineer, Commercial Engineer, Procurement Specialist, or related commercial functions.
