Job Title: Lead Civil Engineer
Duration: 12 month renewable contracts
Schedule: 100% office based
Location: Madrid
This opportunity sits within an onshore oil and gas project environment and focuses on civil, structural and architectural engineering across EPC and PMC phases. The role is suited to candidates with strong experience in structural design, technical analysis, compliance with engineering standards, and support through construction, commissioning and start-up. This position offers the chance to contribute to large-scale capital projects where quality, technical integrity and safe project execution are central to delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the planning, design and execution of civil and structural project scope.
- Perform and review complex design, analysis and calculations to support safe, durable and compliant structural solutions.
- Ensure all project phases comply with relevant codes, safety regulations, local building codes and project specifications.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables including drawings, calculations, data sheets, hook-up drawings and material submittals.
- Support procurement activities by reviewing documentation and ensuring engineering requirements are correctly applied.
- Monitor EPC contractor performance and verify compliance with scope, discipline guidelines and quality standards.
- Provide engineering support during FEED, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning and start-up.
- Conduct site inspections and audits to monitor quality, identify non-compliance issues and follow through corrective actions.
- Support hazard and risk management activities and ensure safety considerations are integrated into project delivery.
- Review safety procedures, method statements and testing protocols relevant to the project scope.
- Identify commissioning risks and support mitigation planning through handover and close-out.
- Prepare and maintain clear technical documentation and engineering reports.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Required)
- Member of an appropriate professional organization (Required)
- Structural/Civil Engineering degree (Required)
Required Experience:
- Minimum 12 years of experience across EPC phases including FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and start-up.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a related designation or specialty.
- Experience working on EPC and PMC phases of major capital projects.
- Experience in civil and structural engineering related to structures supporting hydrocarbon projects.
Required Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of engineering principles for analysing loads, forces and stress factors to design safe, durable and economical structures.
- Strong knowledge of concrete and steel design including beams, slabs, columns, foundations and pipe racks.
- Ability to prepare and review structural analysis and calculation reports.
- Understanding of geotechnical considerations including soil bearing, settlement and earth pressure.
- Knowledge of load combinations, seismic design and wind analysis.
- Experience reviewing construction drawings including general arrangement drawings, sections, details and reinforcement drawings.
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro or RISA-3D.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D and understanding of BIM methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of relevant codes and standards including ACI, AISC, ASCE and IBC.
Preferred Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
- PMC experience preferred.
- Onshore project experience preferred.
