Lead Engineering Geologist / Principal Engineering Geologist
Contract Type: 12-Month Contract (likely to extend beyond)
Location: Perth, WA (with occasional site travel as required)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Lead Engineering Geologist or Principal Engineering Geologist to provide technical leadership across a major rail infrastructure program. The role will support the planning, redesign, engineering and execution of rail renewal works within a complex heavy haul rail environment.
The successful candidate will bring strong engineering geology and geotechnical expertise, with a proven track record in rail infrastructure projects and pavement design. This position offers the opportunity to influence critical engineering outcomes from concept through to delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead geological and geotechnical assessments for rail infrastructure projects.
- Provide technical input into rail formation and pavement design.
- Review and interpret ground investigation data and develop engineering recommendations.
- Assess geotechnical risks and support mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support asset renewal and rehabilitation initiatives through condition assessment and engineering analysis.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and delivery teams to develop practical and cost-effective solutions.
- Provide technical leadership, governance and peer review of geotechnical and geological deliverables.
- Manage investigation programs, consultants and contractors as required.
- Prepare and review technical reports, specifications, design documentation and risk assessments.
- Support construction and execution activities with specialist geological and geotechnical advice.
Skills & Experience
- Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 10–15+ years' experience in engineering geology and/or geotechnical engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in heavy haul rail infrastructure projects.
- Strong background in pavement design, formation assessment and earthworks.
- Experience with various facets of geology; underground, surface, tunnelling, hard rock, rock mechanics, hydrogeology etc
- Experience delivering projects across design, engineering and construction phases.
- Exposure to rail renewals, rehabilitation or brownfield infrastructure projects.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Ability in leading site teams and investigations, with a good knowledge of various geo software and data analysis
