Job Title: Lead Process Engineer
Duration: 12 month initial contract
Schedule: Monday-Friday in office

This opportunity sits within major oil and gas capital projects and offers broad involvement across FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up. The role is focused on process engineering, process safety, and commissioning support, with responsibility for maintaining technical integrity, supporting safe project execution, and helping drive successful project handover and start-up.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, optimise, and implement industrial processes to improve efficiency, productivity, safety, and profitability.
- Support safe project execution while maintaining quality and technical integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop new processes and improve existing processes in line with operational goals.
- Carry out process simulations and design calculations to support engineering delivery.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation including Process Flow Diagrams, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- Review and endorse contractor procedures and verify compliance with project safety specifications and legal requirements.
- Lead or support process safety activities including HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID, SIMOPS, and operational readiness reviews.
- Identify commissioning risks and implement mitigation plans.
- Coordinate inspection and testing activities including NDE, pressure testing, welding, and coating in collaboration with third-party inspection agencies and project stakeholders.
- Conduct site inspections and audits to monitor quality compliance, track non-conformance, and support corrective actions.
- Identify and resolve process bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and unexpected operational issues through analysis and data interpretation.
- Develop and deliver quality training, safety inductions, and awareness activities to strengthen safe working practices.
- Coordinate emergency response planning and testing, including drills, with relevant internal and external parties.
- Collect, analyse, and report quality performance data and KPIs to support continuous improvement.
- Monitor environmental aspects of project activity including waste management, pollution prevention, and legislative compliance.
- Review and approve safety procedures, method statements, and testing protocols for project execution and start-up activities.
- Support energisation, first oil or gas, equipment start-up, and project handover activities.
- Coordinate vendor site support, start-up specialists, and OEM representatives during execution and commissioning phases.
- Provide leadership, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Required)
Required Experience:
- Extensive experience across EPC phases including FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up within the oil & gas industry.
- Experience working on EPC and PMC phases of major capital projects, ideally Middle East projects.
- Experience managing multi-licenser units.
- Industry exposure across onshore oil & gas, petrochemicals and refining, LNG facilities, fabrication yards, power plants, and large infrastructure or utilities projects.
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of process simulations, equipment design, and control systems.
- Understanding of refinery operations, piping, pressure vessels, and rotating equipment.
- Knowledge of process safety and safe start-up practices.
- Familiarity with OSHA, NEBOSH, environmental regulations, and refinery safety codes.
- Ability to interpret inspection data, KPIs, and quality metrics to support decision-making.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability to diagnose and resolve production challenges.
- Clear communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Leadership capability to guide junior engineers and support delivery across complex project stages.
