Job Title:
Mechanical and Rotating Machine Lead Engineer
Duration: Until 31st December 2026, with possibility of extension
Schedule: Office based
Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (On-site)
This opportunity offers a senior-level mechanical engineering position supporting a major oil and gas infrastructure project across project offices and sites in Tanzania and Uganda. The role focuses on rotating machinery, static equipment, mechanical integrity and technical leadership across engineering, construction, commissioning and maintenance activities. This position will play a key part in equipment reliability, fitness for service and safe project delivery within a complex, multi-contract environment.
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent recognised engineering qualification.
Required Experience:
Typically 12 years or more of relevant experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, pipeline, terminal or hydrocarbon-facility environments.
Demonstrated experience in a lead or senior mechanical engineering role supporting engineering, construction, commissioning, operations or maintenance.
Proven experience with rotating and static mechanical equipment including pumps, compressors, motors, fans, blowers, seals, bearings, lubrication systems, packaged equipment, pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers and valves.
Experience reviewing ITPs, method statements, repair procedures, NCR dispositions, FAT/SAT procedures and mechanical completion documentation.
Required Skills:
Strong knowledge of machinery installation, preservation, levelling, grouting, alignment, balancing, testing, troubleshooting, overhaul and acceptance.
Working knowledge of API 610, API 617, API 618, API 650, API 682, API 686, ASME B31.3, ASME PCC-1 and applicable pressure equipment and tank standards.
Ability to review mechanical engineering drawings, datasheets, specifications, calculations, vendor documents and maintenance documentation.
Proficiency in interpreting P&IDs, general arrangements, equipment layouts and vendor drawings.
Technical leadership, sound engineering judgement, and strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, interfaces and time-critical technical decisions in a multicultural project environment.
Competence with Aconex or equivalent EDMS and common business applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
Advanced written and spoken English.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with condition monitoring, vibration analysis, lubrication analysis, failure investigation and Root Cause Analysis.
