Job Title: Mechanical Maintenance & Reliability Engineer 
Duration: 9-months with potential to be extended
Schedule: 5/40 or 9/80
Location: Port Neches

This opportunity sits within a chemical manufacturing business focused on petrochemicals and wool yarns. The role is centred on mechanical reliability across fixed and rotating equipment, supporting plant performance, mechanical integrity, and regulatory compliance. This position offers broad technical scope across pumps, compressors, turbines, gear boxes, cooling towers, exchangers, and vessels, with strong involvement in change management, maintenance strategy, and turnaround activity. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for mechanical reliability within an assigned plant area, covering both fixed and rotating equipment. 
  • Support compliance relating to process safety management, mechanical integrity, engineering design, relief devices, process safety information, maintenance procedures, and document retention requirements. 
  • Carry out periodic inspections of equipment within assigned units and support maintenance, modification, and improvement activity with appropriate documentation and regulatory change management. 
  • Provide engineering repair recommendations for stationary and rotating equipment in the assigned areas. 
  • Work closely with operations to help maintain equipment in excellent working condition. 
  • Lead root cause investigations for stationary and rotating equipment failures. 
  • Develop engineering and procurement specifications for equipment within assigned units. 
  • Manage equipment repair projects, new equipment procurement, and installation activity. 
  • Provide engineering support and supervision for unit inspections and maintenance turnarounds. 
  • Deliver technical guidance and written instructions to production and process engineering teams on maintenance and correct operation of mechanical equipment. 
  • Act as a focal point for mechanical equipment changes involving assets such as pumps, compressors, turbines, gear boxes, cooling towers, exchangers, and vessels. 
  • Manage change activity for the assigned area and support turnaround scope development and change requests affecting mechanical equipment. 
  • Contribute to integrated management system requirements relating to safety, health, environmental, quality, GMP, food safety, and responsible care where applicable. 
  • Participate in company training and environmental, health, and safety initiatives. 
  • Work collaboratively with team members from different backgrounds and perspectives while supporting wider company goals. 

Required Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Required) 
  • TWIC card, or ability to obtain one (Required) 

Required Experience

  • 2–5 years of mechanical maintenance and/or reliability experience, including internships 

Required Skills

  • Proficiency with SAP, internet, email, and Microsoft Office programs 
  • Knowledge of risk-based work prioritisation methodology 
  • Knowledge of economic evaluation methods including Life-Cycle Cost Analysis, NPV, and Benefit/Cost 
  • Basic understanding of engineering, purchasing, accounting, construction practices, and maintenance workflows 
  • Strong communication and documentation skills 
  • Ability and willingness to learn on the job 
  • Analytical thinking and decision-making capability 
  • Adaptability, team effectiveness, and relationship-building skills 

Preferred Skills, Experience & Qualifications: 

  • Mechanical maintenance and/or reliability experience within a petrochemical or refining facility 
  • Experience in analysing and developing preventative maintenance procedures and practices to improve efficiency, uptime, and asset availability 
  • Experience with predictive maintenance programs using condition monitoring, including thermal scanning, temperature trending and analysis, and vibration analysis 
  • Prior experience leading risk-based maintenance assessments on critical equipment 
  • Knowledge of reliability-centred maintenance or asset management plan development 
  • Experience with reliability-focused statistical analysis
