Position Overview

This opportunity is for a Metering Engineer to support metering maintenance activities across key operational sites within a major crude oil pipeline and export terminal development. The Metering Engineer will play a technical role focused on the integrity, reliability and accuracy of flow metering systems and associated measuring instruments. This position offers the chance to work in a technically demanding oil and gas environment with broad exposure to maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and operational support. The Metering Engineer will also contribute to safe operations, technical coordination and capability development within the wider maintenance team.

Role Context

This role sits within the oil and gas sector on a large-scale midstream pipeline development that includes a nearshore marine storage and export terminal. The working environment covers MST in Tanga and other pipeline sites, with frequent travel required between locations. The Metering Engineer reports into the maintenance and inspection structure and works closely with instrumentation, control, process and laboratory personnel in support of operational metering performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out and oversee planned preventive and corrective maintenance activities for flow meters, metering systems and associated measuring instruments.
  • Perform fault-finding, diagnostics and breakdown repair activities to maintain equipment reliability, accuracy and operational availability.
  • Support calibration planning and execution, ensuring metering calibration equipment and testing activities meet required accuracy standards.
  • Maintain the integrity and performance of fiscal and operational metering systems to support accurate crude oil measurement and volume allocation.
  • Coordinate with vendors and specialist contractors on metering maintenance and calibration services.
  • Assist with modifications, rectification works and installation of new metering equipment.
  • Prepare maintenance reports, contribute to operating procedures and support technical documentation for metering activities.
  • Work closely with instrumentation, control and process teams on metering performance, flow measurement inputs and system monitoring.
  • Promote high standards of safety, housekeeping and compliance with site procedures and industry practices.
  • Support mentoring, on-the-job training and knowledge transfer for engineers and technicians within the team.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential: BSc degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
  • Essential: At least 5 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, or strong relevant experience as a Metering Engineer in another industry.
  • Essential: Technical experience in flow measurement, metering systems, measuring instruments, maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting.
  • Essential: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Essential: Good MS Office experience.
  • Desirable: Short course certificates from a vendor or regulatory authority in flow measuring and metering equipment or instrument maintenance.
