Position Overview
This opportunity is for an NDT QA/QC Specialist supporting a major onshore LNG development during peak construction and quality execution activities. The NDT QA/QC Specialist will act as the technical focal point for Non-Destructive Testing activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications, international codes and quality standards across fabrication, construction and installation phases. This position offers extensive exposure to multidisciplinary quality, welding, construction and contractor management teams within a large-scale LNG development. Role Context
The role is based within the oil and gas / LNG sector on a world-scale onshore LNG development comprising LNG production trains, storage facilities, marine loading infrastructure, utilities and associated site infrastructure. The NDT QA/QC Specialist will work within the Site QA/QC team alongside QC Inspectors and the Welding QA/QC Specialist, reporting directly to the NDT QA/QC Lead. The position supports quality assurance and control activities across multiple contractors and subcontractors operating on a complex, multi-package construction site.
Key Responsibilities
- Review contractor and subcontractor NDT Quality Plans, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), NDT procedures and technique sheets covering RT, UT, PAUT, TOFD, AUT, MT, PT and VT activities.
- Perform site surveillance and inspection of NDT activities carried out by contractors, subcontractors and supply chain personnel.
- Verify implementation of approved NDT procedures and monitor critical examination parameters during fabrication and erection activities.
- Witness NDT operator qualification examinations and verify personnel certifications and competency requirements.
- Review radiographic, ultrasonic and advanced NDT examination results, assess indications and follow up on identified defects.
- Verify traceability of NDT consumables, calibration records, equipment certification and personnel qualifications.
- Support resolution of NDT-related technical queries, non-conformance reports (NCRs) and root-cause investigations.
- Coordinate with site NDT specialists, Welding QA/QC personnel and contractors to manage examination sequencing and hold/witness points.
- Participate in quality audits and contribute to continuous improvement of site quality systems and processes.
- Compile NDT performance metrics and contribute to project quality reporting and KPI monitoring.
- Promote compliance with HSE requirements, radiation safety controls and project quality standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Essential: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, NDT Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
- Essential: Minimum 8 years of experience in NDT QA/QC or related inspection disciplines, including at least 3 years in a specialist or senior NDT inspection role within oil and gas projects.
- Essential: ISO 9712 Level II or ASNT Level II certification in at least two methods among RT, UT, MT and PT, with RT and UT highly preferred.
- Essential: Strong experience reviewing and interpreting NDT examination results, reports and quality documentation.
- Essential: Experience with major oil and gas or LNG projects of comparable scale and complexity.
- Essential: Working knowledge of industry standards including ASME V, ASME IX, ASME B31.3, AWS D1.1, EN ISO 17636, EN ISO 17640, EN ISO 17638, EN ISO 3452 and relevant API standards.
- Essential: Experience supporting technical queries, NCR resolution, defect assessment and root-cause analysis.
- Essential: Radiation Safety or Radiation Protection training relevant to radiographic inspection activities.
- Essential: Strong commitment to HSE standards, quality assurance and safe execution of NDT activities.
- Desirable: Hands-on experience with advanced NDT techniques including PAUT, TOFD and AUT.
- Desirable: CSWIP 3.1, AWS CWI, IWT or IWI-S qualification.
- Desirable: Familiarity with major operator specifications and international oil company quality requirements.
- Desirable: Portuguese or French language skills and previous experience working in sub-Saharan Africa.
