Position Overview
This Night Lease Operator opportunity is suited to a technically capable production professional with direct exposure to oil and gas field operations. The Night Lease Operator will support safe and efficient wellsite activities across assigned facilities, helping to maintain production performance, equipment reliability, and regulatory compliance. This Night Lease Operator position offers hands-on work across a varied operating environment, with responsibility for monitoring wells, adjusting field equipment, and responding to changing operating conditions. The Night Lease Operator will play an important role in daily field execution, while contributing to safety, production, and operational performance goals.
Role Context
This position is based within oil and gas production facilities in Hobbs, New Mexico. The role involves working across lease routes and remote well locations in a field-based operating environment, including outdoor work in varying weather conditions and night shift coverage. The successful candidate will support daily operations and maintenance of assigned wells and associated production equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect oil and gas wells, tanks, meters, separators, compressors, and associated piping for leaks or abnormal operating conditions, taking corrective action where required.
- Operate and monitor wells and separation equipment to maintain normal levels, pressures, and flow rates across assigned facilities.
- Gauge tanks for sale or transfer of crude oil, condensate, and water, ensuring accurate operational records are maintained.
- Adjust automatic and manual controls to optimise production and support contractual operating requirements.
- Operate production equipment including gas wells, gas lift wells, rod pump units, submersible wells, surface pumping equipment, test wells, and rental compressors.
- Gather and review field data to identify daily changes in equipment performance and production output.
- Carry out minor hands-on repairs using hand tools and support equipment reliability through timely identification of further maintenance needs.
- Maintain and optimise artificial lift systems, including wellhead compression, capillary strings, plunger lift, foamed injection, gas lift, and flow case equipment.
- Start up and shut in wells, maintain chemical injection rates, and support safe, efficient daily operations.
- Respond to alarms and support detailed shift handovers to ensure continuity of operations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Essential: Legal authorisation to work in the United States.
- Essential: Valid driver’s license.
- Essential: Willingness and ability to work in temperature extremes and adverse weather conditions.
- Essential: Willingness and ability to travel between different geographic locations during the working day and operate from both field sites and a company vehicle.
- Essential: Willingness and ability to wear appropriate safety equipment, climb heights of up to 24 feet, walk, bend, stoop, lift, and use hand tools for minor repairs.
- Essential: Willingness and ability to work weekends and remain available for call-out response.
- Desirable: 3+ years of direct experience in oil and gas production practices, equipment, and terminology.
- Desirable: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Desirable: Strong understanding of safety rules and practices with a satisfactory safety record.
- Desirable: Ability to prepare accurate reports and interpret production and financial information.
