Power Plant Operator (Outside)

Duration: 9 months initially with possibility of extension
Location: Gregory, Texas
Rotation: 7/7 rotation - 7 days on, 7 days off (12 hours per day)

Role Context

This role sits within a power generation or industrial processing environment and focuses on outside operations across critical plant systems. The Power Plant Operator (Outside) will work in a facility-based setting involving steam production, cooling systems, condensers, turbines, boilers, chemical processes, and auxiliary equipment. This position also supports coordination with maintenance, engineering, vendors, and site leadership as part of day-to-day plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced operating activities requiring strong technical judgement across complex plant systems.
  • Diagnose abnormal plant conditions independently and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Execute major operating activities including system transitions, complex start-ups, shutdowns, and high-risk operational adjustments.
  • Complete operational rounds and chemistry sheets accurately as part of routine plant monitoring.
  • Support troubleshooting during plant performance issues and help guide operational response during abnormal conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with operating procedures, environmental requirements, and plant safety standards.
  • Contribute to procedure development, operational improvements, and system performance optimisation.
  • Represent operations when coordinating with maintenance, engineering, vendors, and leadership.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Essential: Minimum 5 years of experience in power plant operations.
  • Essential: Advanced knowledge of plant systems including steam production, cooling systems, condensers, turbines, boilers, chemical processes, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Essential: Ability to solve complex operational problems through interpretation of plant data, chemistry logs, and system interactions.
  • Essential: Expertise in environmental compliance, safety programmes, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Essential: Operating experience in power generation, industrial processing, or a closely related environment.
