Position Overview

This opportunity is for a Principal Electrical Designer to provide advanced electrical design and drafting support on small to medium-sized projects within a technically demanding environment. The Principal Electrical Designer will work with a high degree of independence, applying established engineering design practices, relevant regulations, codes, and industry standards to deliver quality project outputs. This position offers the chance for a Principal Electrical Designer to contribute to complex electrical installation work, support design reviews, and help deliver project scopes within time and budget expectations. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver electrical design and drafting work for HV and LV electrical installations across a range of project activities.

  • Prepare layouts, plans, sections, elevations, details, and design drawings from sketches, plans, specifications, reference drawings, or catalogue information.

  • Produce detailed drawings for lighting, small power, earthing systems, HV/LV single line diagrams, wiring and control schematic diagrams, AC/DC distribution panels, process area electrical equipment, substations, switchyards, cable tray systems, underground and above-grade cable layouts, ductbanks, grounding plans, lightning layouts, and installation details.

  • Carry out routine and dimensional calculations required for drawing preparation, including cable pulling calculations, cable tray sizing calculations, cable selection and sizing calculations, ductbank sizing, and lighting calculations.

  • Participate in 3D model reviews and support the development of coordinated design deliverables.

  • Direct junior designers and coordinate work sharing activities to help ensure drawings meet project specifications and company procedures relevant to the electrical discipline.

  • Take part in design reviews and provide technical input on design, drafting issues, and compliance requirements.

  • Maintain electrical discipline documents and work within project quality assurance guidelines.

  • Travel to job sites when required to perform panel audits and walkdown raceway routing.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential:

    8+ years of experience in electrical design.

  • Essential:

    Experience with SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), AutoCAD, and MicroStation.

  • Essential:

    Experience participating in SmartPlant 3D model reviews.

  • Essential:

    Strong technical capability in electrical design and drafting for lighting, small power, earthing, HV/LV single line diagrams, control schematics, electrical equipment layouts, substations, switchyards, cable systems, ductbanks, grounding, and lightning layouts.

  • Essential:

    Proven ability to work independently, oversee drawing preparation, and deliver work within time and budget constraints.

  • Essential:

    A 2 or 3 year technical diploma with discipline-specific training, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in electrical design and drafting.

  • Desirable:

    Experience with AVEVA E3D.

  • Desirable:

    Experience with lighting calculation software such as AGI32.
