Job Title: Principal Metallurgical Engineer
Duration: 1 year.
Schedule: Hybrid.
Location: Calgary, Alberta or Edmonton, Alberta
The role focuses on metallurgy, corrosion engineering, welding, materials selection, and technical assurance across multidisciplinary engineering environments. This position will have a strong influence on technical excellence, asset integrity, and high-risk design decision-making across major capital and sustaining scopes.
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Metallurgical Engineering or a closely related discipline, supported by extensive relevant industry experience.
Required Experience:
- Extensive experience in metallurgical and materials engineering within oil and gas, refining, gas processing, hydrogen, CCUS, and/or energy transition facilities.
- Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership on large, complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Strong background in asset life-cycle management, integrity management strategies, and resolution of complex technical issues.
- Experience supporting site activities, troubleshooting in-service issues, and providing field-based technical support in industrial environments.
- Experience working in data-centric engineering environments and digital project delivery models.
Required Skills:
- Deep expertise in ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, corrosion mechanisms and mitigation strategies, welding metallurgy, fabrication practices, failure analysis, and materials degradation.
- Strong capability in materials selection, corrosion control, equipment design criteria, material standards, welding specifications, fabrication requirements, and mill test report review.
- Strong working knowledge of applicable ASME, CSA, API, ASTM, and NACE/AMPP codes and standards.
- Ability to provide technical assurance, peer review, and governance across metallurgical and materials deliverables on high-risk and complex scopes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborative approach across disciplines, project teams, and stakeholder groups.
- Ability to perform job walks and site inspections while wearing required personal protective equipment.
Required Certifications:
- Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA (Required).
Required Location:
- Candidates must currently reside in Calgary, Alberta, or Edmonton, Alberta or within a reasonable commuting distance of Calgary or Edmonton.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant NACE/AMPP certification (Preferred).
