Position Overview

This Project Controls Specialist opportunity is suited to a technically strong professional with experience in maintenance planning and cost control within an industrial environment. The Project Controls Specialist will play a key role in supporting cost tracking, reporting, forecasting, and financial control across routine maintenance activity. This Project Controls Specialist position offers the chance to contribute to budget integrity, reporting accuracy, and project performance in a dynamic operational setting. The Project Controls Specialist will work closely with maintenance and project teams to help maintain effective work management and cost control practices.

Role Context

This role sits within the renewable fuels and refining sector, supporting routine maintenance activity at a site environment. The position involves close collaboration with maintenance planners, project engineers, finance, and project teams, with a focus on cost performance, reporting, and maintenance-related project support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage routine maintenance cost control activities, including tracking actual costs, forecasts, and variances.

  • Monitor and reconcile work activity costs to support alignment with budgets and project priorities.

  • Produce and maintain weekly and monthly cost tracking reports, dashboards, spending trend analysis, accruals, and forecasts.

  • Provide analysis of cost performance, highlighting risks, variances, and areas requiring corrective action.

  • Support monthly forecasting activities in partnership with finance to maintain alignment between reported costs and business expectations.

  • Maintain documentation related to change management, including budget changes, scope additions, and cost impacts.

  • Support consistent cost tracking practices in line with reporting and control requirements.

  • Coordinate with project teams where maintenance activity interfaces with wider project work to support accurate cost separation.

  • Assist with audit support and closeout documentation to maintain complete and accurate historical records.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential:

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or Business, or equivalent experience.

  • Essential:

    5+ years of experience in refinery or project cost control.

  • Essential:

    Advanced proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Excel.

  • Essential:

    Strong attention to detail, organisational, and analytical skills.

  • Desirable:

    Experience in oil and gas, energy, or manufacturing industries.

  • Desirable:

    Familiarity with work order and project management processes.

  • Desirable:

    Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
