Project Engineer – Mechanical
Perth / Port Hedland (2:1 Roster)
12-Month Contract
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Project Engineer (Mechanical) to support the delivery of a major fixed plant brownfield replacement project in the Pilbara. This role will play a key part in construction, shutdown execution, commissioning, and project handover activities within an operational mining environment.
About the Role
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will provide mechanical engineering and project delivery support across fabrication, installation, testing, commissioning, and handover activities. The project involves the replacement and upgrade of critical materials handling infrastructure, including surge bins, conveyors, chutes, structural steel, and associated mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day mechanical engineering support throughout construction, shutdowns, commissioning, and handover phases.
Review engineering drawings, specifications, vendor data, and contractor deliverables for constructability and compliance.
Coordinate interfaces across mechanical, structural, piping, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines.
Manage technical queries, field changes, RFIs, and non-conformances.
Monitor contractor performance, schedule, productivity, and project progress.
Review and witness quality documentation, inspections, testing, and mechanical completion activities.
Support shutdown planning, readiness reviews, and execution activities.
Assist with FAT, SAT, commissioning, troubleshooting, and defect resolution.
Drive completion and handover processes, ensuring all documentation and quality records are closed out.
Promote safe work practices and participate in site inspections and risk reviews.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical engineering and project delivery within mining, resources, or heavy industry.
Proven experience delivering brownfield fixed plant construction and shutdown projects.
Strong knowledge of conveyors, chutes, surge bins, materials handling equipment, and mechanical installations.
Experience coordinating contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
Strong understanding of Australian engineering and construction standards.
Current Driver's Licence.
Ability to work a 2:1 FIFO roster to Port Hedland.
