One of our major oil and gas clients is seeking a Project Scheduler to work in one of our clients’ facilities in Martinez, CA, for a 1-year contract assignment.

Summary: Seeking an experienced and results-driven Project Scheduler to support the Engineering Department in the planning, development, and execution of capital and expense projects. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining integrated project schedules while supporting project controls best practices, including planning and scheduling, forecasting, earned value management (EVM), progress measurement, and change management throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Construction, and Contractors to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within approved budgets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and analyze integrated project schedules using Primavera P6 from project initiation through project completion.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineering Firms, Construction Management, Operations, Maintenance, and Contractors to develop logical, resource-driven schedules that support project execution strategies.
  • Develop and maintain project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) in accordance with Project Controls standards.
  • Prepare and maintain master schedules, baseline schedules, look-ahead schedules, turnaround schedules, and detailed execution plans.
  • Monitor project progress, identify schedule variances, evaluate critical path activities, and recommend corrective actions to maintain project objectives.
  • Perform schedule impact analyses for scope changes, engineering revisions, procurement delays, and construction changes.
  • Review contractor schedules and progress updates to ensure compliance with project controls procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly schedule reports, project performance metrics, and executive summaries for project teams and leadership.
  • Support Project Controls Supervisor with project portfolio reporting, schedule performance analysis, and project status reporting.
  • Perform Earned Value Management (EVM) analysis during engineering and execution phases to measure project performance against scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Develop and maintain manpower forecasts, resource-loaded schedules, and resource histograms to support short- and long-term workforce planning.
  • Interface with Engineering, Operations, Procurement, Accounting, Construction, and Contractors to gather project information, resolve scheduling issues, and improve project execution.
  • Assist Project Managers in developing recovery schedules, acceleration plans, and schedule optimization strategies.
  • Continuously improve scheduling processes, reporting tools, and project controls best practices to enhance project execution and reporting efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Project Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in project planning and scheduling supporting capital projects, maintenance projects, or industrial construction.
  • Advanced proficiency with Primavera P6 scheduling software.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting refinery, petrochemical, industrial, or heavy construction projects.
  • Experience with SAP and project controls processes including forecasting, cost control, change management, and earned value management.
  • Knowledge of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling, resource loading, schedule risk analysis, and progress measurement.
  • Experience developing executive dashboards, schedule performance reporting, and project controls analytics.
  • Familiarity with project estimating, construction execution planning, and contractor performance management.
