Position Overview
We are recruiting a QA/QC Welding Specialist to support the construction phase of a major onshore LNG project in Mozambique. This is a site-based, rotational role embedded within the Owner’s quality team, responsible for ensuring all welding activities meet international codes, project specifications, and company standards. The position requires a hands-on QA/QC professional with strong experience in welding inspection, procedure qualification, and NDT coordination, capable of working within a large-scale, multicultural construction environment and driving both quality excellence and HSE compliance.
Role Context
Working on a high-profile LNG development, the role interfaces daily with contractors and subcontractors across welding, fabrication, piping, mechanical, and construction teams. The successful candidate will act as the on-site welding QA/QC authority, contributing to:
Safe and compliant execution of welding activities
Quality assurance across fabrication and installation
Continuous monitoring and improvement of welding performance
Key Responsibilities
Review and approve contractor documentation: Welding Quality Plans, ITPs, WPS, PQRs, and WQRs
Witness and validate welder qualification tests, ensuring only approved personnel perform welding activities
Monitor implementation of qualified WPS and welding parameters on site
Coordinate and oversee Non-Destructive Testing (RT, UT, MT, PT) and validate results against acceptance criteria
Ensure full traceability of materials, consumables, and weld joints in compliance with codes and project requirements
Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Technical Queries (TQs), including root cause analysis and corrective actions
Analyze defect trends and recommend mitigation strategies
Liaise with inspection, piping, mechanical, and construction teams to improve QA/QC performance
Prepare structured daily, weekly, and monthly reports (weld status, NDT results, repair rates, KPIs)
Verify appropriate inspection manpower levels within contractor and subcontractor teams
Promote HSE compliance, focusing on welding hazards (arc flash, fumes, fire risk) and safe practices
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 10 years’ experience in welding QA/QC, preferably within Oil & Gas or LNG megaprojects
At least 5 years in welding inspection roles on major construction projects
Proven experience working on large onshore EPC or LNG construction sites
Strong knowledge of international welding codes: ASME IX | AWS D1.1 | ISO 9606 | API 1104
Solid experience with:
WPS, PQR, WQR approvals and implementation
Welder qualification and performance assessment
NDT coordination and interpretation
Material and consumable traceability systems
NCR management and defect analysis
Certified Welding Inspector (CWI - AWS), CSWIP 3.1 / 3.2, or equivalent (preferred/expected)
Degree in Engineering, Metallurgy, Welding, Mechanical, or related technical discipline
Additional QA/QC or inspection certifications are advantageous
Languages: Fluent English (mandatory); Portuguese or French is a plus
