Position Overview
This opportunity is for a Reinforced Concrete & Steel Structure Design Engineer to support the design and calculation of new reinforced concrete and steel structures within an industrial environment. The Reinforced Concrete & Steel Structure Design Engineer will contribute to technically demanding structural engineering work covering foundations, buildings and supporting frameworks for industrial installations. This position offers the chance to work on detailed design deliverables, technical verification activities and multidisciplinary coordination within a regulated project setting. Role Context
This role sits within an industrial project environment involving buildings and industrial structures, including petrochemical, pharmaceutical and related facilities. The work supports the design phase of projects and may involve concurrent delivery across multiple projects depending on engineering maturity and available input data. The role also interfaces with broader project stakeholders and supports the transfer of engineering changes into construction documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare calculation notes for preliminary sizing, detailed sizing and execution design of foundations, reinforced concrete structures and steel frameworks supporting industrial installations.
- Develop methodologies for structural justification and produce core design basis information and technical descriptions of the works.
- Validate modelling principles, including action combinations and weighting coefficients, for structural design activities.
- Review, comment on and validate calculation notes prepared by other engineering centres, subcontractors, suppliers and construction companies.
- Check the conformity of drawings produced from structural design recommendations and dimensioning calculations.
- Produce structural design and calculation reports for buildings and industrial structures.
- Support quantity estimation for concrete and steel structures.
- Monitor engineering changes and ensure relevant updates are reflected in construction-related documentation.
- Apply project-specific and discipline-specific engineering methods, rules and study requirements throughout delivery.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience in the design and calculation of reinforced concrete and steel structures.
- Proven experience in the study and design of buildings in an industrial environment, including installations such as pipe racks, booms and equipment foundations.
- Proven experience on petrochemical facility projects and offshore experience in the execution phase within France or Europe.
- Experience reviewing structural calculations and monitoring construction company deliverables.
- Strong knowledge of North American structural design standards.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis and Bentley STAAD.Pro.
- English language capability for engineering documentation and project communication.
- Ability to work effectively within a team, contribute to a study group and engage professionally with stakeholders.
- French language capability.
- Experience in a detailed design office environment.
- Desirable: Familiarity with American codes for potential wider project involvement.
