JOB SUMMARY
Lead the operational and maintenance reliability function at Vale Malaysia Minerals, ensuring safe, reliable, and sustainable port operations. Manage a multidisciplinary team of reliability engineers to analyze asset performance, identify loss profiles, and drive corrective actions. Implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) strategies and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize asset availability and productivity. Improve equipment performance by increasing MTBF and reducing MTTR while ensuring compliance with Vale standards. Promote a strong culture of safety, risk management, teamwork, and operational excellence.

• GENERAL
• Area of Responsibility: Vale Malaysia Minerals (VMM) Operations, Seri Manjung, Perak.
• Experience: At least 10 years of experience in technical leadership roles within maintenance, reliability, or process plant technical management.
• Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and evaluate options, assess risks, and make informed decisions aligned with organizational objectives.
• Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and senior management.
• People Leadership: Responsible for leading and developing a team of approximately 15 direct reports.
• SPECIFIC
• Strong knowledge of asset maintenance management principles and reliability strategies.
• Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary technical teams, including mechanical, electrical, automation, structural, and civil engineers.
• Solid understanding of asset loss profile analysis and investigation methodologies.
• Proficient in reliability engineering methodologies, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), and Criticality Analysis.
• Strong knowledge of problem-solving and decision-making tools and methodologies.
4. MAIN CHALLENGES
Vale Malaysia Minerals is a port and iron ore distribution center located in a remote area of Seri Manjung, Perak, Malaysia.
The position is responsible for:
• Provide technical leadership to teams responsible for asset reliability processes, ensuring that Vale Malaysia's productivity targets are achieved safely, sustainably, and in compliance with Vale's standards and guidelines.
• Ensure assets operate at optimal conditions and achieve the production target by analyzing availability, loss profiles and reliability performance, while ensuring that corrective actions are effectively tracked, implemented, and completed.
• Promote integration and collaboration across departments to enable unified decision-making and drive the achievement of common goals.
5. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead and promote safety, environmental, and risk management initiatives.
• Lead, coach, and support the development of direct-report team members.
• Lead a team of reliability engineers, including mechanical, electrical, automation, and reliability specialists, in conducting loss profile analyses.
• Coordinate weekly and monthly reliability meetings and ensure their effectiveness, including board of directors.
• Lead the investigation of loss profiles, failure analyses, and action plan management.
• Coordinate and drive daily performance reviews based on loss profile findings.
• Lead technical discussions, including troubleshooting, engineering analyses, and failure investigations.
• Drive the application of Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) methodology.
• Lead improvement projects based on loss profile findings and reliability studies.
• Perform and lead basic engineering activities focused on reliability improvement and loss reduction.
• Improve asset reliability by increasing Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and reducing Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), while meeting or exceeding Vale's targets.
• Deploy and ensure compliance with Vale's corporate engineering standards across all VMM departments.
• Maintain open and effective communication channels with the Corporate Engineering Department.
6.Qualification, Experience & Competency.
• Experience: Bachelor’s degree in engineering with relevant experience, including at least 10 years in technical leadership roles.
• Specific Knowledge: 5–10 years of proven experience in managing maintenance and reliability teams responsible for bulk material handling equipment, such as conveyor belts, stackers, stacker-reclaimers, ship unloaders, ship loaders, and sampling systems.
• Industry Experience: Experience managing technical and operational excellence teams within mining, port operations, oil and gas processing plants, or other heavy industries is an added advantage.
• Professional Qualifications: Postgraduate qualifications and professional certifications are advantageous, including Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP), Master's degree, MBA, Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent certifications.
