Job Title: Safety Coordinator
Duration: 6 months
Schedule: Day shift, 10-12 hour shifts, 5-6 days per week
Location: Kingsport, TN
Per diem is not offered for this role.
This opportunity focuses on leading health, safety and environmental performance on a major flat-bottom tank construction project. The role supports site leadership and construction contractors by driving OSHA compliance, safety audits, risk assessments and incident prevention across a busy field environment. This position offers the chance to make a visible impact on workforce safety, operational excellence and continuous improvement through to the planned project end date of 2027.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site-specific safety programs, procedures, and initiatives.
- Provide visible field leadership through regular site inspections, safety observations, and engagement with employees and contractors.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, client requirements, and company safety standards.
- Conduct site safety audits, risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and behavioral safety observations.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Facilitate safety orientations, training programs, toolbox talks, emergency drills, and leadership safety meetings.
- Partner with project management and field supervision to integrate safety requirements into planning and execution activities.
- Monitor contractor performance and verify adherence to established safety expectations and work practices.
- Maintain accurate safety records, metrics, reports, and regulatory documentation.
- Support emergency preparedness activities and coordinate response efforts during incidents.
- Promote a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement in all aspects of safety performance.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive safety experience in construction, industrial, manufacturing, energy, or similar field-based environments.
- Experience conducting incident investigations, safety audits and compliance assessments.
- Experience supporting site operations and monitoring contractor adherence to established safety expectations and work practices.
- Experience working in field-based project environments with regular site inspections, safety observations and employee engagement.
Required Skills:
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, environmental regulations, industry best practices and risk management principles.
- Ability to lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of site-specific HSE programmes, procedures and initiatives.
- Capability to conduct site safety audits, job hazard analyses, behavioural safety observations and risk assessments.
- Strong communication, leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence site leadership, supervisors, craft personnel and contractors.
- Ability to deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, emergency drills, training programmes and leadership safety meetings.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, SMS, or equivalent (Preferred).
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Experience supporting large project sites and managing safety performance across diverse contractor organisations.
- High angle rescue experience would be advantageous.
