Duration: 12 months renewable contract

Position Overview

The Safety Loss Prevention Engineer position offers the opportunity to support the design and development of safety engineering solutions for oil and gas facilities. This role sits within a technically demanding engineering environment focused on major hazard management, risk reduction and compliance with applicable standards and codes. The Safety Loss Prevention Engineer will contribute to high-impact engineering work across fire protection, hazard identification and loss prevention design. This Safety Loss Prevention Engineer opportunity is well suited to candidates looking to apply specialist safety engineering expertise on complex offshore facility projects.

Role Context

This role is based within the oil and gas sector and supports safety engineering activities related to FPSO and turret design. The position involves work across safety studies, risk assessments and detailed loss prevention design for offshore facilities. The working environment includes participation in design reviews and multidisciplinary engineering activities relating to major hazard management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation, review and development of safety engineering documentation in line with technical standards for oil and gas facility design.
  • Contribute to risk management activities to ensure design decisions are justified and risks are reduced to ALARP.
  • Develop and support deliverables such as safety concepts, fire protection basis of design, hazardous area classification schedules and layouts, escape route drawings, hydraulic firewater calculations, QRA, FERA, EERA and gas dispersion studies.
  • Design fire and gas detection systems, fire fighting systems and safety systems for FPSO and turret facilities, including specification of major equipment.
  • Perform detailed design for loss prevention systems, including equipment specifications, fire fighting P&IDs, hazardous area zoning layouts, safety plans and related calculations.
  • Participate in HAZOP studies, design reviews and other safety reviews.
  • Review drawings, specifications and technical documentation related to loss prevention systems.
  • Prepare formal technical responses to comments on drawings and specifications and respond to hazard management queries from stakeholders.
  • Support the identification and justification of environmental requirements in design and review or apply human factors engineering criteria where relevant.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential: Bachelor or Master degree in a relevant discipline such as Fire Engineering, Fire Risk Engineering, Safety, Risk and Reliability Engineering, or an engineering background with proven safety engineering experience.
  • Essential: More than 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Essential: Knowledge of the oil and gas industry.
  • Essential: Fluent English, both spoken and written.
  • Essential: Strong problem-solving capability, accountability and the ability to contribute effectively within a technical engineering environment.
