Job Title: Senior C&I Engineer
Duration: 12 months
Location: Manchester with regular visits to site in Immingham

This opportunity sits within a global EPC contractor supporting the energy transition, with project delivery focused on the downstream oil and gas sector. The role offers involvement across conceptual studies, Basic FEED and detailed design, contributing to instrument engineering deliverables on medium to large capital projects. This position will suit professionals with strong Instrument Engineering Design expertise, UK project experience and a solid background in refinery, chemical or petrochemical environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver instrument engineering work across multiple project phases including conceptual studies, Basic FEED and detailed design.
  • Develop instrument engineering deliverables in line with project-specific requirements.
  • Interface effectively with other disciplines within a contracting organisation.
  • Liaise with engineering stakeholders and project management teams to support project execution.
  • Prepare equipment specifications and support equipment selection while ensuring supplier compliance.
  • Apply selected design tools and techniques to support efficient project delivery.
  • Monitor and support budget and schedule control activities and reporting.
  • Contribute to design safety and constructability considerations.
  • Conduct site surveys as required.
  • Prepare technical specifications, technical bid analysis and requisitions for field instrumentation and analysers.
  • Support the application, specification and requisitioning of DCS, PLC and SIS systems across the full system lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the specification, design and implementation of hazardous area instrumentation in accordance with ATEX requirements.
  • Support instrumentation and control requirements for mechanical packages.
  • Contribute to P&ID development.
  • Carry out sizing activities for flow devices, control valves and relief devices.

Required Experience:

  • Experience in Instrument Engineering Design on medium to large capital projects from concept through to start-up.
  • Extensive experience in the chemical, petrochemical and oil and gas industries.
  • Experience working on UK projects using UK standards.
  • Experience working with global integrated delivery teams.

Required Skills:

  • Strong capability within the C&I discipline in a contracting organisation and ability to interface with other disciplines.
  • Very good proactive communication skills.
  • Competence in equipment specification, equipment selection and supplier compliance.
  • Competence in project execution using selected design tools and techniques.
  • Competence in budget and schedule control, monitoring and reporting.
  • Competence in design safety and constructability.
  • Competence in conducting site surveys.
  • Ability to work to company standards and apply innovation where appropriate.
  • Competence in electrical protection methodologies.
  • Competence in specification, technical bid analysis and requisitioning of field instrumentation and analysers.
  • Competence in the application, specification and requisitioning of DCS, PLC and SIS systems across the full lifecycle.
  • Competence in hazardous area instrumentation in accordance with ATEX.
  • Competence in instrumentation and control requirements for mechanical packages.
  • Competence in P&ID development.
  • Competence in sizing flow devices, control valves and relief devices.

Preferred Education & Certifications:

  • TUV FS Eng qualification or equivalent (Preferred).

Preferred Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Refinery experience preferred.
