Position Overview

SENIOR PIPING DESIGNER 

We are seeking an experienced Senior Piping Designer with a minimum of 15 years of oil and gas piping design experience, including extensive exposure to detailed engineering, brownfield modifications, revamps, debottlenecking, and capacity enhancement projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing high-quality piping layouts, 3D models, tie-in packages, and construction-ready design deliverables in compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and applicable international codes.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering and Piping Design

  • Develop detailed piping layouts, equipment arrangements, routing studies, and piping general arrangement drawings for oil and gas processing facilities.
  • Prepare, review, and update piping design deliverables including:
    • Plot plans
    • Equipment layouts
    • Piping General Arrangement (GA) drawings
    • Isometric drawings
    • Tie-in drawings
    • Pipe support drawings
    • Material Take-Offs (MTOs)
    • Underground routing drawings
    • Piping location plans
  • Create and maintain 3D models using Smart 3D (SP3D) or equivalent design software.
  • Ensure all designs comply with approved P&IDs, project specifications, design basis requirements, and applicable industry standards.
  • Identify and resolve design clashes, accessibility issues, space constraints, and constructability concerns through model reviews and interdisciplinary coordination.

Brownfield and Site Engineering

  • Conduct site surveys and field verifications to validate routing, tie-in locations, equipment interfaces, pipe rack availability, and constructability requirements.
  • Support the development of brownfield modification packages, shutdown strategies, and tie-in philosophies.
  • Assist in evaluating hot tap and tie-in feasibility, considering operational constraints, isolation requirements, and site accessibility.
  • Incorporate site observations and survey findings into design deliverables, 3D models, and construction work packs.

Multidisciplinary Coordination

  • Coordinate closely with Process, Mechanical, Piping Stress, Civil/Structural, Instrumentation, Electrical, Construction, and Procurement teams.
  • Incorporate stress analysis requirements into piping layouts, support concepts, and flexibility-critical routing.
  • Participate in model reviews, constructability workshops, design reviews, hazard studies, and technical coordination meetings.
  • Raise and resolve technical queries, interface issues, design clarifications, and change requests in a timely manner.
  • Support construction and commissioning teams by providing design clarification and resolving field engineering issues as required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Piping Design, or a related technical discipline.
  • Professional training or certification in piping design software will be an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of piping design experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Minimum 10 years of detailed engineering experience on EPC/EPCM projects.
  • Proven experience in:
    • Brownfield modifications
    • Revamps and upgrades
    • Debottlenecking projects
    • Capacity enhancement projects
    • Operational oil and gas facilities
  • Experience in gas processing, refining, petrochemical, or offshore/onshore facilities is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated involvement in site surveys, tie-in executions, and construction support activities.

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency in Smart 3D (SP3D) and related piping design tools.
  • Excellent understanding of:
    • Piping layouts and routing
    • Equipment arrangement
    • Pipe supports and flexibility requirements
    • Constructability and maintenance access requirements
    • Material take-offs and piping deliverables
  • Knowledge of relevant international codes, standards, and engineering best practices.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, equipment datasheets, vendor drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Familiarity with clash detection and model review processes.
