Position Overview

This Senior Planning Engineer opportunity is suited to a technically strong professional with experience delivering project planning support in the oil and gas sector. The role focuses on schedule development, progress control, forecasting, and cross-functional coordination to support efficient project execution. This position offers the chance to contribute to complex project delivery while working closely with engineering, procurement, construction, and project leadership teams. The Senior Planning Engineer will play a key role in maintaining schedule integrity, supporting performance visibility, and driving proactive planning across the project lifecycle.

Role Context

This role sits within the oil and gas sector and supports project execution through close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, procurement, construction, and project management stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and optimise detailed project schedules to support timely and efficient delivery.

  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and key stakeholders to gather project data, milestones, and schedule inputs.

  • Monitor project progress, identify potential delays, and support corrective actions to mitigate schedule risk.

  • Prepare regular progress updates, schedule reports, forecasts, earned value analysis, and performance metrics.

  • Analyse project trends and provide planning insight to support informed decision-making.

  • Lead planning meetings and workshops to maintain alignment across stakeholders.

  • Ensure planning activities are aligned with relevant industry standards, safety requirements, and company policies.

  • Support and mentor junior Planning Engineers as part of team development.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential:

    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.

  • Essential:

    5+ years of project planning experience within the oil and gas sector.

  • Essential:

    Proficiency in project planning software, including Primavera P6 and MS Project.

  • Essential:

    Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Essential:

    Knowledge of project management methodologies and best practices.

  • Essential:

    Strong time management and organisational skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Essential:

    Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Desirable:

    Experience mentoring or supporting junior Planning Engineers.
