About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Structural Designer to join a leading engineering consultancy supporting a portfolio of sustaining capital projects within the mining sector. Based in Perth, this is a 12-month contract position offering the opportunity to work on a variety of brownfield and operational site projects, delivering high-quality structural design solutions across steel and concrete infrastructure.
Reporting to the Lead Structural Designer, you will play a key role in developing both 2D and 3D structural designs, collaborating closely with engineers, designers, and multidisciplinary project teams to deliver practical, fit-for-purpose solutions. The role is primarily office-based, with occasional site visits as required.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver structural design and drafting packages for sustaining capital and brownfield mining projects.
- Produce detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for structural steel and reinforced concrete structures.
- Prepare general arrangement drawings, detailed design drawings, layouts, sections, and fabrication details.
- Work closely with structural engineers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure design accuracy and project alignment.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of structural design standards and drafting procedures.
- Perform design checks and reviews to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and client specifications.
- Support the preparation of design deliverables throughout all project phases, from concept through to detailed design.
- Coordinate with other disciplines to manage design interfaces and resolve technical issues.
- Participate in model reviews, constructability reviews, and design workshops.
- Conduct occasional site visits to gather field information, verify existing conditions, and support project execution.
- Ensure all design work is completed in accordance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior designers where required.
Requirements
- Extensive experience as a Structural Designer within engineering consultancy, mining, resources, or heavy industrial environments.
- Demonstrated experience delivering structural design solutions for sustaining capital or brownfield projects.
- Strong expertise in structural steel and reinforced concrete design detailing.
- Advanced capability in both 2D drafting and 3D structural modelling.
- Strong understanding of mining infrastructure and operational site environments.
- Experience producing high-quality structural drawings and design documentation.
- Ability to interpret engineering calculations, specifications, and design criteria.
- Strong understanding of Australian design standards and industry practices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality outcomes.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience working within engineering consulting environments.
- Exposure to materials handling facilities, processing plants, mining infrastructure, and heavy industrial structures.
- Experience supporting site-based project execution and construction activities.
- Familiarity with major mining clients and sustaining capital project delivery frameworks.
