Senior Structural Engineer
Position Overview
Airswift is recruiting for a Senior Structural Engineer on behalf of a company operating in the renewable energy sector - specfically focussed on a new Floating Offshore Wind project indevelopment. This Senior Structural Engineer opportunity is focused on the analysis and design of offshore support structures, supporting the delivery of technically sound and cost-effective engineering solutions in line with project schedules. The Senior Structural Engineer will work within a multidisciplinary environment and play an important role in technical leadership, engineering quality, and mentoring.
Role Context
This role sits within the structural engineering function of a company developing offshore hybrid floating wind platforms. The position supports engineering delivery within a technology and innovation environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead structural analysis and design activities for support structures in line with project specifications and relevant industry standards.
- Develop engineering designs and calculations for structural components, considering loading conditions, material properties, and fabrication constraints.
- Carry out finite element analysis and other advanced analytical studies to evaluate structural performance and identify opportunities for optimisation.
- Review engineering deliverables including drawings, reports, and specifications to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate structural components into wider system designs.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior structural engineers and support continuous professional development within the team.
- Support technical engagement with external stakeholders to help resolve engineering issues and address technical queries.
- Plan and organise engineering activities effectively to support project schedules and delivery objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Essential: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
- Essential: 5+ years of progressive experience in structural analysis and design, with a focus on offshore or marine structures.
- Essential: Experience with finite element analysis, structural modelling, and dynamic loading analysis.
- Essential: Proficiency in structural engineering software such as STAAD Pro, SACS, or ANSYS.
- Essential: Good technical knowledge of analysis software such as FEMAP or SESAM, together with Microsoft Office tools.
- Essential: Proficiency in Python and MATLAB.
- Essential: Good working awareness of codes and standards in floating offshore wind or a similar industry.
- Essential: Understanding of dynamic loading conditions, structural integrity, and fatigue analysis.
- Essential: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex engineering data and make sound technical decisions.
- Essential: Good professional verbal and written communication in English and Portuguese.
- Desirable: Specialisation in offshore structures, renewable energy, or wind engineering.
- Desirable: Experience on wind energy projects involving support structures for offshore wind turbines.
- Desirable: Knowledge of advanced materials and construction methods used in offshore structural engineering.
- Desirable: Knowledge of CAD software for 3D modelling and drawing packages.
- Desirable: Knowledge of PLM software for configuration management and change control.
