Primary Objective:
Reporting to the BCCS Engineering Lead, responsible for overseeing and driving the overall system engineering scope for the Bonaparte CCS (BCCS) project, ensuring the CCS system is defined, integrated, verified, and managed to meet HSE, technical integrity, quality, reliability, operability, cost, and schedule requirements. Accountable for system-wide engineering assurance activities, including HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, and operability reviews, while managing interface risks across contractor scopes. Also responsible for system-level requirements, control and impurity management philosophies, and verification strategies, ensuring alignment across process, control, instrumentation, subsea wells, facilities, and operational stakeholders throughout FEED and Execute phases.

Define and maintain overall system architecture, control philosophy, operational basis, performance requirements, and ICSS integration across topsides, subsea, wells, and third-party interfaces.
Ensure technical integrity, regulatory compliance, configuration control, and delivery assurance through design reviews, technical governance, and management of change processes.
Manage system interfaces and stakeholder alignment, coordinating contractors, vendors, emitters, operations teams, and external parties to resolve cross-functional challenges.
Support procurement and contractor management through development of technical scopes, bid evaluations, vendor reviews, and package integration activities.
Drive technical assurance and risk management through HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, RAM, operability reviews, technology qualification, and mitigation of system-level risks and gaps.
Oversee flow assurance, process engineering, and CO

specification development to ensure consistent design basis and performance across the CCS value chain.
Review and approve key technical documentation while ensuring project requirements, standards, and regulatory obligations are effectively cascaded into contractor and vendor deliverables.

About the Role
This is a Perth-based, Monday-Friday, 12-months contract position for an oil and gas operator. As the Senior Systems Engineer, you’ll lead systems engineering activities for a large-scale Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) development, ensuring the end-to-end system is safely integrated, technically robust, and aligned with project objectives. Responsible for system requirements, technical assurance, interface management, and risk mitigation across multiple disciplines and contractor scopes, while supporting project delivery from FEED through execution and commissioning.

Skills/Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in Oil & Gas, LNG, or Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS), with a strong foundation in process and systems engineering.
- Proven experience defining and managing complex system architectures, design bases, operating philosophies, and performance requirements.
- Strong background in process safety studies, including HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA.
- Knowledge of CO? transportation, processing, and storage systems, or equivalent experience in complex gas, LNG, or subsea developments.
- Solid understanding of control and safety systems, including ICSS architecture, safeguarding, and integration of topsides, subsea, and well control systems.
- Experienced in requirements management, interface management, technical assurance, verification & validation, and configuration control across multi-contractor projects.
- Familiar with early-phase project development, including concept evaluation, option selection, decision analysis, and FEED execution.
- Demonstrated ability to manage interfaces and collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders on large-scale integrated developments.
