Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Transmission Electrical Designer to support the planning, design, and development of overhead transmission line projects. This role involves creating detailed engineering drawing packages, performing structural design and analysis, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring all project deliverables meet applicable industry standards, codes, budgets, and schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain detailed, scaled design drawings for transmission line projects with minimal supervision.
- Develop complete design drawing packages and perform reviews of packages prepared by other team members.
- Design overhead transmission lines ranging from 34.5kV to 230kV.
- Perform structural analysis and design for pole, lattice, framed, and guyed structures.
- Lead project assignments and provide guidance to junior designers and drafting personnel.
- Coordinate with engineering and multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated and compliant designs.
- Prepare and review bills of materials, conduit schedules, and cable schedules.
- Support the development of conceptual layouts and design solutions using available project information.
- Ensure all drawings and documentation comply with applicable drafting standards and document control procedures.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of engineering deliverables.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting schedule and budget requirements.
- Participate in site visits and field walkdowns as needed to support project execution.
- Deliver accurate, high-quality design work in accordance with project requirements, industry codes, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in transmission line design and drafting.
- Associate Degree, Diploma, or equivalent education and experience in Electrical Design, Drafting, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of electrical regulations, industry codes, standards, and engineering practices.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
- Experience manipulating vector and raster-based drawing files within CAD platforms.
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE.
- Ability to interpret and implement a variety of client-specific CAD standards.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry standards and codes, including:
- NESC
- IEC
- CSA
- IEEE
- ANSI
- IBC
- ASCE 7
- AISC
- ACI 318
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with transmission line engineering and design projects.
- Experience supporting utility, power delivery, or electrical infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with substation and power network design environments.
