Software Test Automation Engineer (Playwright & JMeter)
Duration: Minimum 12 month contract
Workload: Full-time Hours
Setup: Freelance (Daily Rate / Limited Company / Umbrella / Sole Trader)
Location: Remote (EU)
We are seeking an experienced Software Test Automation Engineer to join a long-term transformation programme, helping migrate from a legacy platform to a modern technology stack while ensuring quality throughout the delivery lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop and maintain automated test frameworks using Playwright.
- Create, execute and optimise performance and load testing strategies with JMeter.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot to accelerate test case creation and improve test coverage.
- Collaborate with developers, architects and stakeholders to define testing approaches and quality standards.
- Perform functional, regression, integration and end-to-end testing.
- Identify defects early and provide clear reporting, analysis and recommendations.
- Operate autonomously within Agile delivery teams, taking ownership of testing activities from planning through execution.
Must-Have Skills:
- Strong commercial experience with Playwright test automation.
- Proven experience using JMeter for performance and load testing.
- Experience using AI-powered development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or similar) to create and maintain automated tests.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of testing outcomes.
- Previous experience within Agile environments.
- Based within the European Economic Area.
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience supporting large-scale application migration or modernisation programmes.
- API testing experience.
- CI/CD pipeline exposure.
- Experience as the primary or sole tester within a delivery team.
