Solution Architect – Core Banking & Payments (Digital Euro Pilot)
Duration: initial contract 2 months (extensions expected)
Workload: Full time hours
Setup: Freelance (Daily rate / Limited Company / Umbrella / Sole Trader)
Location: Remote (Occasional visits to Vienna)
We are looking for a senior Solution Architect with deep payments expertise to define and shape the architecture for a Digital Euro pilot programme.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define the target architecture for a Digital Euro solution aligned to enterprise standards, security, and regulatory requirements
- Design integration patterns between CBDC components and Core Banking Systems, payment platforms, and liquidity/settlement services
- Assess central vs local deployment models across multiple entities
- Lead vendor and solution assessments, including build vs buy decisions and architecture reviews
- Facilitate architecture workshops, identify risks, and support decision-making during pilot phases
- Produce executive-level architecture recommendations and support SteerCo decisions
Must-Have Skills:
- Strong payments architecture background across SEPA, Instant Payments, Cards, Open Banking, and Request-to-Pay
- Deep expertise in ISO 20022 (pain, pacs, camt) and SWIFT MT/MX messaging
- Experience with TARGET services (T2/T2, TIPS), settlement, liquidity, and reconciliation
- Proven experience integrating Core Banking Systems and payment hubs
- Strong knowledge of real-time/high-volume payment processing architectures
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience with CBDC / Digital Euro initiatives
- Knowledge of ECB Digital Euro architecture and wallet ecosystems
- Multi-country deployment and group architecture experience
- German speaking would be a benefit
