Job Title: Specialist Mechanical Engineer - Turbomachinery
Duration: 1 year.
Schedule: Mondays to Fridays.
Location: Calgary or Edmonton, AB.
This opportunity is suited to a senior mechanical engineering professional with deep expertise in turbomachinery, rotating equipment, and major capital projects across energy and process industries. The role focuses on technical authority, engineering assurance, and lifecycle performance across complex greenfield and brownfield environments. This company offers exposure to high-risk, high-complexity machinery scope including compressors, steam and gas turbines, expanders, and critical machinery trains.
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Required Experience:
- Extensive and progressive experience specialising in turbomachinery and high-speed rotating equipment within industrial facilities.
- Extensive experience delivering turbomachinery engineering on large, complex capital projects across oil and gas, LNG and gas processing, refining and petrochemicals, hydrogen, CCUS, power generation, and energy transition projects.
- Proven experience providing technical governance and assurance across design, specification, procurement, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of turbomachinery systems.
- Strong background supporting brownfield revamps, debottlenecking projects, machinery replacements, and critical asset upgrades.
- Demonstrated track record of acting as a senior technical advisor to clients, operations teams, project leadership, and senior engineers.
Required Skills:
- Deep technical expertise in centrifugal, axial, and integrally geared compressors, steam turbines, gas turbines, expanders, and high-speed rotating equipment and machinery trains.
- Advanced knowledge of couplings, seals, lube oil systems, auxiliary systems, machinery dynamics, rotor dynamics, vibration analysis, surge, performance mapping, and machinery reliability improvement.
- Capability to lead and review complex engineering deliverables including machinery specifications, data sheets, equipment selection studies, and technical bid evaluations.
- Strong understanding of reliability engineering, operability, maintainability, RAM studies, and asset lifecycle management for critical rotating equipment packages.
- Ability to support technical reviews, HAZOPs, constructability reviews, model reviews, reliability workshops, technical risk assessments, FATs, performance testing, and site commissioning activities.
- Advanced proficiency with engineering tools, machinery analysis software, and engineering document management systems.
Required Certifications:
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA, or eligibility for immediate registration (Required).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience acting as a recognised technical authority for turbomachinery on large, multidisciplinary capital projects.
- Experience contributing to discipline governance, technical assurance frameworks, or enterprise engineering standards.
- Experience supporting proposals, business development efforts, and client technical engagements related to turbomachinery systems.

- Candidates must currently reside in Calgary, Alberta, or Edmonton, Alberta or within a reasonable commuting distance of Calgary or Edmonton.
