Job Title: Team Leader Geophysics
Duration: Up to 2 years, with the possibility of renewal
Location: Kuala Lumpur, MY

This opportunity sits within the oil and gas industry and focuses on exploration geophysics, seismic interpretation and prospect evaluation. The role is designed for a technical leader who can support exploration campaign decision making, guide geophysical work program and contribute to well planning and project evaluation. This position also offers scope to mentor geophysicists, support technology transfer and work closely with internal and external stakeholders on exploration activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead seismic interpretation across acquired seismic cubes to identify additional structural and stratigraphic seismic markers.
  • Define potential prospects arising from exploration campaigns and carry out geological and geophysical prospect evaluation and ranking.
  • Plan and propose exploration wells in the most suitable locations.
  • Lead the evaluation and monitoring of exploration activities across the project.
  • Supervise geophysical data acquisition during drilling operations.
  • Support seismic acquisition and processing planning, including geophysical studies such as QI study.
  • Assist with planning and monitoring departmental work plans and budget.
  • Maintain appropriate working procedures and methodology to support efficiency and capability development in exploration geophysics.
  • Promote capability development and current technology application within the geophysics team.
  • Coach, motivate and develop junior staff to strengthen geophysical capability and technical knowledge.
  • Deliver technical training to enhance basic and advanced geophysical knowledge within the team.
  • Support effective team discussion and decision making.
  • Promote the implementation of company SSHE policy and regulations across all work under responsibility.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including partners and agencies, for presentations and discussion on work-related matters.

Required Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geophysics or a related field (Required)

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in geology and exploration.

Required Skills:

  • Strong capability in seismic interpretation and structural reliability of seismic maps.
  • Ability to identify potential prospects and support commercial assessment over the responsible block.
  • Experience contributing to exploration campaign decision support.
  • Ability to support efficient technology transfer within a technical team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and professional integrity.
  • Proven stakeholder management skills and ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external parties.

Preferred Education & Certifications:

  • Master’s degree in Geology or Geophysics (Preferred)
  • Professional certificate from an accredited body or association (Preferred)

Preferred Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Experience in the oil and gas industry (Preferred)
