Job Title: Technical Project Manager
Reports to: Project Director, Project Execution Director
Job Industry: Renewable Energy
Job Location: Oman

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to support the delivery of utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects from development completion through financial close, construction, commissioning and commercial operation. The successful candidate will act as the primary technical focal point for the project, coordinating engineering consultants, Owners Engineer, Lenders Technical Advisor, EPC contractors, utilities, regulators and internal stakeholders. The role combines strong engineering knowledge with project management capabilities to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead feasibility assessments for solar PV projects, including site screening, resource analysis, and layout optimization.
  • Managing design leads for all projects in company portfolio.
  • Perform preliminary BESS capacity calculations: dispatch strategy, determine optimal storage size (MWh/MW), C-rate, charge/discharge cycling strategy, and augmentation schedule relative to the solar generation profile, offtake structure, and PPA performance obligations.
  • Coordinate with engineering consultants and GIS teams on technical studies including yield simulations (PVsyst), grid connection analysis, and BoP design.
  • Prepare pre-feasibility, feasibility, and technical due diligence reports; define optimal Solar PV + BESS system configuration considering DC/AC ratio, degradation curves, PR targets, and site constraints.
  • Analyze connection options to the electrical grid and determine the optimal interconnection point in terms of cost and technical feasibility.
  • Develop and maintain preliminary project financial models: calculate project IRR, equity returns, NPV, DSCR, LCOE/LCOS, and run sensitivity analyses across tariff, generation, capex, and financing scenarios to support investment decisions and lender presentations.
  • Review and redline technical provisions of PPAs: Performance Ratio definitions and calculation methodology, net/gross energy metering, generation guarantees, availability thresholds, curtailment treatment, degradation allowances, and measurement and verification protocols.
  • Support the negotiation and ongoing management of Long-Term Agreements (LTAs): track contractual milestones, prepare technical inputs and correspondence, coordinate with legal counsel and counterparties, and flag deviations from agreed terms.
  • Review technical sections of EPC contracts: technical specifications, equipment standards, performance guarantees (PR, availability, net energy yield), acceptance testing protocols, and LD/bonus structures; flag contractual risks and inconsistencies with project design assumptions.
  • Support the preparation of RFPs and EPC tender packages with technical inputs; assist in bid evaluation from a technical and commercial perspective.
  • Monitor development timelines, risks, and deliverables; report progress to internal teams, partners, and investors.
  • Act as the Design Authority for assigned projects, maintaining overall ownership of the technical solution throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead and coordinate design development activities from concept design through detailed engineering and construction support.
  • Ensure alignment between project design, contractual requirements, lender requirements and construction execution.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface between EPC Contractors, Owners Engineer (OE), Lenders Technical Advisor (LTA), Independent Engineer, equipment suppliers, utilities and regulatory authorities.
  • Lead technical coordination meetings and ensure timely resolution of technical comments, design interfaces and project risks.
  • Coordinate the review, consolidation and closure of technical comments received from EPC, OE, LTA and other project stakeholders.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field. Master’s or MBA is a plus.
  • +8 years of experience in renewable energy project development, with direct involvement in solar PV and BESS projects across the full development cycle — from feasibility through financial close and EPC procurement.
  • Hands-on experience reviewing and negotiating technical provisions in PPAs (PR methodology, generation guarantees, metering, curtailment), LTAs, and EPC contracts (technical specifications, performance guarantees, testing protocols).
  • Proficiency with PVsyst, ETAP, PSSE or other energy modeling and electrical simulation software.
  • Solid understanding of BESS sizing principles: storage capacity optimisation, C-rate selection, degradation and augmentation modelling, dispatch strategies, and LCOE/LCOS calculation in the context of hybrid solar + storage systems.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; fluency in English required.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills with demonstrated ability to build project financial models from scratch: IRR, NPV, DSCR, equity returns, and sensitivity tables. Familiarity with project finance concepts (debt sizing, waterfall, DSRA) is a strong advantage.
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality technical presentations, project progress updates, investment memoranda and decision papers for senior management, shareholders, lenders and Board-level meetings. Demonstrate advanced
  • Microsoft PowerPoint skills with the ability to communicate complex technical, commercial and financial information in a clear and executive-level format.
  • Support executive decision-making through preparation of technical assessments, risk evaluations and project performance reports.
  • Present project status, key risks, mitigation measures and critical technical decisions to Board and executive management as required.
  • Willingness to travel within Oman, GCC and other countries with active projects or projects in development stage as needed.
