Job Title: Technical Sales Engineer/Senior Technical Sales Engineer – Gas Compressors, Gas Turbines & Rotating
Location: Selangor, Malaysia

This opportunity is with a Malaysia-based electrical, instrumentation and automation company supporting oil & gas and industrial clients. The role will act as the technical bridge between customers, OEMs and internal engineering and service teams, supporting technical sales activity across gas compressors, gas turbines and rotating equipment. This position offers broad exposure to proposal development, site surveys, tender support and technical clarification work within complex industrial environments.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, or Chemical / Process Engineering with relevant rotating-equipment experience

Required Experience:

  • Relevant experience involving rotating equipment, turbomachinery, compressors or gas turbines
  • Background in a technical role such as compressor application engineering, rotating equipment engineering, turbomachinery engineering, field service, commissioning, compressor or turbine controls, technical sales, proposals, package engineering, or maintenance and reliability
  • Experience engaging with customer engineering teams, supporting site visits, collecting technical data and preparing technical clarification queries
  • Exposure to technical proposal development, tender review and post-award technical handover activities
  • Industry exposure within oil & gas, LNG, petrochemical, refinery, power generation, FPSO, FLNG, offshore platforms, gas processing or compressor stations would support success in the role

Required Skills:

  • Strong technical knowledge of gas compressors, including centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, compressor operating principles, suction and discharge conditions, pressure ratio, flow, performance curves, surge and choke, efficiency, operating envelope, performance degradation and compressor train configuration
  • Understanding of gas turbines and drivers, including industrial gas turbines, mechanical-drive gas turbines, generator-drive applications, fuel systems, speed control, governor systems, auxiliaries, starting systems, lubrication systems and turbine-compressor train interaction
  • Knowledge of compressor and turbine control systems, including anti-surge control, performance control, load sharing, speed control, fuel control, sequencing, emergency shutdown logic, PLC and control systems, machinery protection systems, vibration monitoring, condition monitoring and instrumentation
  • Ability to review P&IDs, datasheets, arrangement drawings, control architecture and cause-and-effect or shutdown philosophy documentation
  • Capability to translate operating problems, equipment configurations and technical requirements into technical solutions and proposal content
  • Strong technical clarification, documentation and reporting skills, including preparation of structured site survey reports
  • Ability to communicate clearly with engineering, service and commercial stakeholders and work independently across technical and commercial interfaces

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 to 8 years of relevant experience
  • Mechanical Engineering degree as the preferred academic background
  • Knowledge of API 617, API 618 or other relevant compressor standards
  • Experience working with major operators, EPC contractors or engineering consultants
