Airswift is looking for an HSE Advisor/Specialist VI to work for a major O&G company in Richmond, CA, for an initial 12-months assignment.

Position Overview

This US|HSE Advisor/Specialist VI opportunity is suited to a highly experienced health, safety and environmental professional who can provide visible leadership across office facilities and project activity in Houston. The role will focus on strengthening safe operations, supporting high-risk work planning, and promoting a serious incident and fatality prevention culture. This position offers the chance to make a direct impact through field engagement, assurance activity, incident support and continuous improvement. US|HSE Advisor/Specialist VI professionals with strong construction safety and oil and gas experience will be well aligned to this opportunity.

Role Context

This US|HSE Advisor/Specialist VI role is based onsite in Houston and supports office facilities and project teams within an oil and gas environment. The position works closely with operations and projects teams on evaluating work and planning medium and high-risk activities. The working environment includes construction or commercial interiors activity, contractor engagement, safety meetings and emergency response planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide HSE leadership to operations and project teams to support safe operations and strengthen a serious incident and fatality prevention culture.
  • Deliver in-field coaching on safe work practices and permitting, with a focus on high-risk work and safeguard verification.
  • Develop, monitor and verify the effectiveness of HSE deliverables and activities.
  • Act as the HSE point of contact for contractor and subcontractor HSE representatives and participate in contractor safety committee meetings.
  • Conduct field verifications, assurance activities, site inspections and audits, and support the close-out of HSE findings.
  • Participate in toolbox talks and job safety analysis development, and verify start work checks are being used where appropriate.
  • Support the development and implementation of proactive and leading safety metrics and contribute to monthly and quarterly safety reporting.
  • Participate in emergency response planning and training, safety stand-ups, weekly HSE meetings and leadership safety walks.
  • Support initial incident response, data gathering, investigation activity and reporting.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential: Significant direct HSE experience within construction or commercial interiors.
  • Essential: Experience within the oil and gas sector.
  • Essential: Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, safe work practices, contractor HSE management, incident investigation and reporting, human and organizational performance, high-risk safeguard verification, construction safety, emergency management, and root cause analysis.
  • Essential: Experience leading or facilitating incident investigations.
  • Essential: Strong written and verbal communication skills, leadership capability, analytical skills, and the ability to work independently while engaging with multiple companies and different levels of personnel and leadership.
  • Essential: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint.
  • Desirable: CSP - Certified Safety Professional.
  • Desirable: Degree in occupational safety and health or a similar safety science discipline.
